26 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, July 5 1988 Cartwright Minor Softball League results On June 1st, 1988 Turners Green Giants played Cummings Backhoe at Nestleton. The score was 17-8 for the Giants. Singles were hit by Lori Con- nell, Kevin Ellis, Josh Wilson, Kyle Russell, Mike Leach, and Kendall Chorostecki. Doubles were hit by Scott Barr, Kevin Ellis, Jeff Kemp, Josh Wilson & Kyle Russell. The only home run of the game was scored by Jeff Kemp. Outstanding catches were made by Kevin Ellis, Dana Lee & Mike Leach. Great pitching was provided by Kevin Ellis, Kendal Chorostecki and Anne Marie Chartrand and great catching by Scott Barr and Scott Page. On June 8, 1988 in a game played at Caesarea, Turner's Green Giants beat Blackstock Hardware with a score of 25-13. A total of nineteen singles were hit by the Giants. Jeff Kemp hit a double & a triple and Kevin Ellis and Kyle Russell hit doubles. Home runs were hit by Josh Wilson and Kendal Chorostecki. Outstanding catches were made by Jeff Kemp, Kevin Ellis, Nicole Leach and Kendal Chorostecki. The diamond at Nestleton was the location for a game between Swain Seeds and Asselstines. Swain Seeds overcame Asselstines with a final score of 9 to 3. Danny Lyons hit a double and Derek Leeming hit a triple. Man- dy Crowder and Joshua Malcolm pitched a strong game. Super Spuds and Blackstock Lioness' met at Blackstock Fairgrounds on June 14. Port Perry Kinsmen had a great win on June 14 when they beat Maltheb with a score of 24 to 8 at Nestleton. A total of eight home runs were scored by the Kinsmen. On June 15, 1988 at Nestleton Causeway Esso and Dominion Hardware played to a final score of 17-12 for Causeway Esso. Jason Parsons and Tanya Mappin both hit home runs. Mike Drummel Smith hit a double and John Ralson hit a single. A good game was played by all. . Turner's Green Giants met the Blackstock Lions for a really close game on June 15 at Blackstock Fairgrounds. The Giants won with a score of 22 to 18. A total of fourteen singles were hit by the Giants. Doubles were hit by Mike Leach, Kevin Ellis, Jeff Kemp and Scott Page while Kendal Chorostecki and Josh Wilson both hit triples. Con- gratulations to Jeff Kenip on his home run. Two double plays were made during the game, one by Kendal Chorostecki and Dana Lee, the other by Kyle Russell and Nicole Leach. Two home runs were scored by Shaun Hughes and one by Jim Chapman. Doubles were hit by Amanda Locke, Shaun Hughes, Jason Malcolm, & Trevor Mar- noch. Jason Malcolm was respon- sible for two doubles. Scott Malcolm and Allan Richmond both hit two singles while Aman- da Locke and Kyle Buller both hit one each. Congratulations to Kyle Buller for that great catch at third base. On June 21st in a game played at Nestleton H & M Wright Sox overcame Swain Seed Sluggers by a score of 17 to 16. Doubles were hit by Mandy Crowder, Dan- ny Lyons & Ben Stephenson, while Julie Williams & Derek Leeming hit home runs. Congratulations to Derek on his two grand slams and his great fly ball catch at pitchers mound. Mandy Crowder made two nice saves at shortstop. Super Spuds were the winners over Maltheb Farms by a score of "9 to 7 at Nestleton on June 21. Katherine Ellis hit two singles ~The Greenbank Gamblers ran their winning streak to 8-0 in the Oshawa City and District League "A" Division before they were finally stopped by Oshawa A.C.L. This game was close right to the final inning as Oshawa broke a 2-2 tie and ended up with a 5-2 victory. The Gamblers, Russ Korbar and Oshawas, Steve Crummy, were the starting pitchers in the game and the lead changed hands on three occasions. : John Foster put the Gamblers in to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning as he belted a long home run over the left centre field _ fence. . In the top of the fourth, Jeff Bricknell singled up the middle and scored when Rick Bricknell blasted a two out home run to give Oshawa a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Greenbank tied the game at 2-2 ~ when Brian Till hit safely, was moved around to third and scored oh dutin Fosters long sacrifice fly all. Then Rick Bricknell doubled in the "Go Ahead' run for Oshawa and two more runs scored on a crucial infield error. The Gamblers refused to quit and in the bottom of the seventh, Brian Till singled and Dennis Ewart drew a base on balls. The game was played at Blackstock Fairgrounds. Nicole Leach had a good outing, hitting three singles, a triple, and also showing some great catching. Kendal Chorostecki was great on the mound as well as hitting three singles and a double. Bristol Sleep did well as catcher and also hit two singles. Jeff Kemp pitched well and hit one single. Kevin Ellis scored two singles and Anne Marie Chartrand added one. Kyle Russell and Josh Wilson each hit two doubles and they combined with Jeff Kemp to make some pinch hitter Mark Goreski lined a vicious shot to left centre which looked like a sure extra base hit but Oshawa centre fielder Kevin Quinlan made a sensational div- ing catch to Rob Goreski and end the game. Brad Vokins, Dustin Mar- noch and Jonathan McCourt each hit doubles and Brad Vokins add- ed two home runs. Jason Logan also had two home runs. Pitching was provided by Jason Logan, Jonathan McCourt and Brad Mor- ton. The latter made an outstan- ding catch on the pitchers mound. In a close game Blackstock Lions overcame Blackstock Hardware by a score of 20 to 19 at Putsey Park on June 30. Michelle Morton had an outstanding game, having a single, a double and making two outstanding catches as well as pitching a good game. Jason MacDonald had a single and a triple. Doubles were hit by Jay Buma, Christie Cordon, Sean O'Donoghue and David Kett. Christie Cordon also made an outstanding catch while Jamie Lowe added a single.
