Trustees were caught off guard June 27 when Bruce Mather an- nounced that he will be stepping down next February when his cur- rent five year contract expires. Mr. Mather, described as a "people person," told the Board meeting he likely will seek new challenges in the private sector. The 54 year old Toronto na- tive came to Durham after spend- ing five years as director with the Hastings Board of Education. He said he believes "I have ac- complished as much as I can. The Scugog Historical Society's tours, being sponsored by Settlement House in celebration of their tenth anniversary, will last about one and a half hours, ending at the Anglican Church. Refreshments will be served and participants will have an opportunity to en- joy historical photos of Port Perry. Many Port Perry and area residents are familiar with Mr. Arculus and his tours and will want to take part in one of these walking tours.
