SQUIRT DIVISION On Wednesday, June 29, Van Camp Construction were too strong for Classic Photos winning by a score of 5-1. Ryan Moynes and Jonathan Reed led the way with two goals each with Blayne Kinnunen adding a single. Scoring for Classic Photo was Seth Gray. In the other game the Royal Canadian Legion squeaked by the Port Perry Star 2-1. Chris Murphy scored the lone goal for the Port Perry Star. Troy Campbell had a good night scoring both goals for the Legion. ATOM DIVISION June 29, also saw action with Gord Lewis Motors taking on Rent and Save while Prestige Hair played against Taylor Ford Mercury. Gord Lewis put on their scoring boots coming out on top 4-0. Scor- ing for Gord Lewis were Robbie Murphy with two and singles go- ing to Jeff Gunn and Aaron Lafontaine. In the other game Taylor Ford got by Prestige Hair 2-0. Tommy Chambers continues his hot scor- ing pace by netting both goals for Taylor Ford. The Port Perry XL Eagles par- ticipated in the Richmond Hill Fastball Tournament and came away with a win and two losses. Playing against some top flight intermediate open teams, The Eagles lost to Toronto Diamond Towing 5-3, defeated North Toron- to Merchants 4-1 and were edged in extra innings by Richmond Hill Merchants 7-4. In league play, The Eagles lost to Stouffville 5-2 to remain in last place in the Campbell Division. A close battle Home Hardware and Rent and Save battled it out on the ball dia- mond last Monday evening and when the dust settled, it was Home Hardware who emerged victorious in the 16-15 results. The brothers Jon and Aron Chambers, and Mark Sauter were only three of the strong players on the Home Hardware side, and the entire team played a strong defensive game in holding their opponents in check. On the other side, Todd Peters, Ian Parliament and Mike MacLennan contributed a number of runs in a strong effort for Rent and Save. Marlin Travel had a big night of softball action last Monday when they defeated the team from Seagrave in a tight 16-14 contest. If not for the clutch-hitting of Katie Armstrong and Jayme Can- non, the result could easily have Sports Land 985-2174 YOUR baseball headquarters Soccer action SQUIRT DIVISION In the Squirt Division two games were played last week. The first was Van Camp Con- struction edging the Royal Cana- dian Legion by a score of 1-0 and the Port Perry Star and Classic Photos tying 1-1. The scorer for Van Camp was Aaron Thompson. Unfortunately the scorers for Port Perry Star and Classic Photos were not available. ATOM DIVISION In Atom play, Taylor Ford Mer- cury was up against Rent and Save with Gord Lewis Motors in action against Prestige Hair. In the first game Taylor Ford com- pletely overwhelmed Rent and Save by a Score of 13-0. The scoring parade was led by John Schewaga with five, Tommy Chambers and Kevin Gray with three each and singles going to Matt Brown and David Kamminga. In the other game Gord Lewis with two goals from Robbie Mur- phy and singles from Troy Mar- tin and Aaron Lafontaine over- came Prestige Hair 4-0. Prestige Hair with only eight players put up a brave fight against the Gord Lewis team. out Upcoming games has Port travelling to Greenbank on Mon- day night and playing host to Oshawa ACL on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. The Port Perry Fastball Tour- nament is approaching quickly with games on July 29, 30, 31 and August 1st. This year the calibre has been raised to include in- termediate open teams and the competition will feature many good teams from the Toronto, Richmond Hill and Oshawa areas. been reversed. Adam Murphy also had a strong game both of- fensively and defensively, and Lance Chad was another team player who was hot at the bat when it counted. For the Seagrave team, Ken Hooker shone offensively, with some notable strong defensive moves from Kevin Durward and Chris Wilham. Henke and Boyd 9-10 Mites softball action on Monday, July 4, saw the emergence of some talented young pitchers as the coaches, who had previously been pitching to their own teams, ended their careers to make way for the new Tom Henkes and Oil Can Boyds. Norton Home Improvements earned a 16-1 win over B & R Elec- tric thanks to the outstanding pit- ching of Jamie Trick, who aims to be the next Dave Stieb, and Shane Norton. Jamie gave up the one run in his two inings of pitching while Shane, in the top of the fourth and final inning, took down three in a row. Special mention should also go to Bradley Fraser who gave good efforts both at bat and in the field. A surprising note to the game: 6 of Norton's 16 runs were scored entirely on walks in the final inning. Don't waste this space!
