PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, July 19, 1988 -- 1) Residents ask for up-grading along road Residents of the Whitby-Scugog Townline Road would like to see their road improved and if possi- ble, hard topped sometime in the near future. Council received a copy of a letter addressed to the clerk of the Township of Whitby pointing out deficiencies and problems along the road, from Betty Cincurak, on behalf of the residents who live along both sides of the road. In addressing the problems, council agreed that the four-way stop sign on the road does create a dangerous situation, and they would support a request to have it removed. Roads superintendent Ronn MacDonald told council that many of the problems listed in the letter are valid concerns, but based on the Townships road maintenance policy, the road does not warrant asphalt (hard top) because of the low volume of traffic. Mr. MacDonald said there are many other roads in the township with double the amount of traffic that would have to be considered for paving before the Townline Road, based on their usage policy. Council was in general agree- ment that if Whitby wanted to spend more money on the road for improvements they could go ahead, but they would not be spending any additional funds on the road. Clerk-administrator Earl Cuddie, told council that Whitby council was fully aware of Scugog's poli- cy position on the Townline Road.
