This year, young Sherry was awarded overall Grand Prize in the contest for her dazzling British look--featuring buttons galore sewn onto her navy blue outfit and hat. Other category winners included Melissa Watson, wearing a medie- val princess costume; Jason Cot- trell for his mobile Sherwood For- est mobile; and an entire troupe of "bagpipe" players (with cardboard pipes, and the music from a Walk- man!) including Nicole Ingram, Brodie Williams, Lynsey Wil- liams, Robert Arksey, Nicole Woods, Breyhanne Foote. The pipers all attend the YMCA day- care on Queen St. Every year the YMCA runs this popular parade, which starts in ront of the IGA and this, year, wound up at the gazcbo in Palmer Park. As usual, parents and YMCA workers outdid themselves creat- ing the costumes, and the SO or so participants had a great time showing off their fancy duds! Busiest weekend Scugog Island Area News by Mrs. Earl Reader The last weekend was surely one of the busiest weekends ever, around Port Perry with typical July heat and timely showers at the right time. The most in- teresting and unusual advertising surely paid off & filled the areas with people for an old time British Festival. Congratulations to the various committees and all who helped. The Women's Institute will have a pot luck supper at the Community Hall this Wed. at 6 p.m. One lady who has been in- volved with Institute all her life will certainly regret her absence as she is confined to the Port Perry Hospital for at least another week. Alva Thompson is one who will never shirk a respon- sibility and enjoys helping in many areas. But many of us forget that a time comes when hot weather takes its toll and we must learn to forego some of our desires. Soncereds, Lv UNIQUE GIFT BASKETS Created with care for all occasions. Her husband Morven, has done a wonderful job in trying to care for her with some assistance. May God give them strenght and courage to bear their suffering and daily routines. Well, the tent caterpillars have finally disappeared and last week I saw a first grasshopper. It seems a little early for them. Regular service was held at Grace United Church. Rev. Harry Atkinson conducted the service in his own refreshing way; and also sang a beautiful solo entitled "Spirit of God."" Although Rev. Atkinson is 'retired' - he has given to all of us, three weeks of inspiration, humor, love, all roll- ed into one - we will welcome him back sometime in the future - we were reminded how fortunate we are to have such a faithful organist and choir to back up our ministers. We were happy to see some new faces in our congregation and hope they will return each Sunday. Festival Days are over and we would like to thank our musical groups "Golden Slippers" and '""The Fortunettes" for their participation. Don't forget the chicken barbe- que Aug. 6 at the church. Choir practice is Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Next Sunday Rev. Dr. McKay will be in charge of the service. E-- SHORT TERM DEPOSITS 734% 30 to 59 DAYS Min. Deposit $5,000.
