gt a 18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, July 19, 1988 Nestleton-Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Surprise Graduation Dinner Alan & Eleanor Cawker "hosted" a surprise dinner party on Sunday, July 10th, at their lovely, spacious home in Oshawa, for Dan Kitchen. This was a special occasion with the combin- ed Kitchen-Cawker family members on hand to offer "best wishes" in a tangible way to Dan...who had just graduated with his Masters of Education Degree, on May 28, at Niagara University, Lewiston, New York! The families prepared the delightful gourmet food for the bountiful dinner party...served buffet style to 21 people. The at- tractive dinner table captured the eye...which was centred with gorgeous roses from the Cawker garden! After all had partaken of the tempting food...Dan was presented with an appropriate painting...which pertained to some extent to school work! Alan made the presentation:..with a few timely comments! Dan voic- ° ed his appreciation to both families, and talked a little re - his school experiences over the years! The guest list included: the Kit- chen family... Victor & Phyllis Kit- chen,, daughters Paula and Deb- bie, Mrs. Kitchen's brother - Ken Twaite, and the recipient - Dan & wife Lea Kitchen. The Cawker family - Alan & Eleanor (host & hostess), Andy & Anne, Michael & Gisela, Scott & Joanne, Mark & Cindy, Christie and friend, An- drew Birney, and Sam & Mabel Cawker. We commend Dan...a dedicated teacher, with a positive look to the future! It has taken diligence, long hours of hard work, and perseverence, to get his degree. Lea's co-operation has meant a lot as well! We do wish Dan, Lea and family - the very best for the future! A great 'send off" party we'll admit! Caesarea Euchre Party In the weekly Euchre, the high hand went to Albert Watts with a 92. The second prize winner was Faith Lawrence with a 79. Third - was won by Anne Harran with 52. Many exciting fun games were played...also, swimming and a . boat ride added to the enjoyment of the party! Crafts were popular...the children made Rain- bow Magnets, which were lovely! All kinds of elegant food was made by Mom...topped off with birthday cake, ice cream and other treats! Happy Birthday was sung. Finally - Avril had a great time opening her lovely, colourful gifts! Best Wishes to Avril on her BIG day! Festival Days Now History! The Great Britain Festival Days is now history, and what a great 3 days it proved to be. The Scugog Chamber of Commerce went all out to have an interesting fun filled fesitval...for all age groups! Everyone got into the swing of things, with many ex- citing activities...and the en- thused crowds enjoyed the numerous events immensely! The hard working committee is to be congratulated for a fine effort! We'll now look forward to next year! Nestleton United Church On a warm, summer Sunday, July 17, a smaller than usual at- tendance at Nestleton. Reg. Hughes was the Usher and Arlene Malcolm and girls were greeting at the door. Leslie MacKenzie 'sang a delightful solo. Rev. Dale Davis told the children present a story. His sermon cautioned us to simplify our life style to make our journey in life more enjoyable. Excess baggage is just a problem tous! Richard Choe assisted Rev. Davis. Our Church services will con- tinue at 11:15 A.M. throughout the summer with two exceptions. August 14 will be a joint service for the Charge held at Blackstock at 10:30 A.M. and August 21 will be the Nestleton Decoration Ser- vice at 2:30 P.M. County Picnic Enjoyed A delightful W.1. County Picnic composed of Districts of Ontario South & Ontario North, was held on Tuesday, July 12, in Elgin Park, Uxbridge, with a very good attendance. Nine members were present from Honeydale Branch. The luncheon table was a pic- ture with a variety of tempting casseroles, salads, meats, and so forth, and choice was difficult! This was followed by lovely desserts, tea, coffee, milk & juice for the young fry! After the luncheon, Louella Lewis, former Board Director for Sub. No. 8, presented the Ontario County 4-H Scholarship Award to Amy Penny of Little Britain, for outstanding achievement in 4-H work! Our warmest congratula- tions to Amy! Bernice Andrews, Pres. of the Picnic Committee, held a brief meeting, re - leftover business and plans for 1989. An interesting program was presented by Ontario South, con- sisting of contests, readings, etc. - a day of fellowship and fun for the W.I. Branches. Bus Trip of Interest! 40 members and friends board- ed the Freeman Bus at 8:30 A.M. on Thursday, July 7, sponsored by the Honeydale W.1. Branch, con- vened by Clara Warren. Many places of interest were toured and lunch was enjoyed...later shopping was fun, and many came home with bargains and wearing apparel! We finally end- ed up at Haugen's Chicken Barbecue for 5 o'clock dinner, which was a delicious meal! A very enjoyable day and we thank Clara for her work in arranging the trip, and for her good ideas!
