Will compete in Open class Gamblers gear for OASA The Greenbank Gamblers fast ball club have entered the Ontario fastball playdowns this year in the intermediate "Open" classification and their first op- ponents will be Oshawa A.C.L. This series will get under way on Monday, July 25 at Greenbank Park at 8:30 P.M. with the second game scheduled for Wednesday, July 27 at Durham Fields main diamond. This series must be completed by August 6 with the winner meeting the Peterborough- Brooklin Survivor and the winner of that series will travel to Lon- don, Ontario for the Ontario In- termediate '"Open" championship tournament. ----- Anyone who has ever played the game of golf dreams of someday hitting a hole in one. Al Heintzman took the loss on the Port Perry mound while Ken Goreski, Wayne Wells and Mark Goreski all shared the pit- ching duties for the Gamblers. Neil Rodd, Terry Till, Rodd Real and Brian Till, each had a pair of hits for Greenbank with Trevor Till and Greg Rodd each . adding a single. Port Perry had home runs from Doug Christie and Colin Wackett and Rob Evans had a triple with Al Heintzman and Rick Evans ad- ding singles. On Wednesday night, in Stouff- ville, the. Gamblers stopped the Betz Pools Squad behind the three hit pitching of Wayne Wells and Mark Goreski. John Annis started on the hill for Stouffville but gave way to Jim Chilvers with the score at 3-1 for Greenbank. However, the Gambler bats con- tinued to produce and the final score was 8-2 for the Gamblers. John Foster led the Greenbank attack with three hits with Trevor Till, Gary Baker and Brian Till each adding a pair of safeties. Rodd Real had a double to round out the Greenbank offense. Both Stouffville runs came on home runs by Steve Brooks and Rick Wells. For Lil Gators, David Philip had a couple of good hits while James Gouldburn played sharp at third, making several good tag outs. At second base, Rusty Hood made a couple of good pick-ups to throw the runners out at first. Andrew Pereman pitched three good innings for Irwin Smith while Stephen Parish caught a line drive at third base and Travis Guindon played well defensively at first base. After taking the lead in the first inning, D. J. Taylor never looked back to beat Standard Electric by the score of 15 to 10. Louis Whitfield pitched three strong innings for D.J. Taylor, striking out five batters and he also hit a triple. Gary Norton made a great move to steal home with Scott Wylie also scoring on the same play.
