Prior to meeting Oshawa in the 0.A.S.A. series the A.C.L. Squad had defeated Greenbank in three of the four meetings between the teams this year including Oshawa victories in both the Richmond Hill and Geordie Easton Tour- naments. However in this series The Gamblers were at the peak of their game and bested the Oshawa team in every department. At Greenbank on Monday night before a small crowd (due to unsettled weather conditions) the veteran Russ Kurbak was in com- plete control of the game and struck out nine batters enroute to the 10-0 shutout. The new right field fence is now installed in Greenbank Park and five Gamblers team supporters had put up a $100. prize for the first Greenbank player to hit a home run over the new fence. In the fourth inning John Foster caught a Steve Crummy fastball squarely and hit the home run to claim the prize which was donated to the Gambler team. In the fifth inning Don Beaton blasted another two run homer for Greenbank and the Gamblers sewed up the game with a four run rally in the bottom »f the sixth. Brian Till had 3 hits for Green- bank with Don Beaton and Terry Till each adding a pair of safeties and Rodd Real and John Foster completed the attack. No Oshawa hitter had more than a single off Russ Korbak who scattered 5 hits over the game. On Tuesday night in Oshawa, Mark Goreski and Ken Goreski teamed up on the Oshawa M.C.L. Juniors in a city and district league game and Greenbank came home with a 4-0 win. Rodd Real had the big blow for the Gamblers as he belted a long three run homer in the first inn- ing and that proved to be all the runs the Gamblers would need as the Goreski boys struck out nine batters io preserve the shutout. Brian Till had two Greenbank hits with the others going to Terry Till, Don Phinney, John Foster and Rodd Real. On Wednesday night, again in Oshawa, the Gamblers kept up their excellent play and eliminated the Oshawa A.C.L. team as Mark Goreski threw a one hit shut out and Don Beaton hit a three run homer to give the Gamblers a hard earned 3-0 victory. Mark Goreski came within in- ches of tossing a perfect game as he only allowed one Oshawa bat- ter to reach base. With two out in the bottom of the fifth inning, Barry McKenna hit a little "flare" fly that dropped between John Foster, Rodd Real, Neil Rodd and George Redshaw in "No Man's Land'. Terry Till led the Greenbank batters with two hits with Trevor Till, George Redshaw, Dennis Ewart and of course Don Beaton's homer, completing the Gambler attack. Now the Greenbank team must wait for the Peterborough - Brooklin winner. Neither of these teams will be easy by any means. Peterborough has the pitching duo of Brian Condon and Randy Fife plus the pick of the Peter- borough City League so they stand to be extremely tough. It should be interesting to see how the Gamblers' pitching staff makes out? They have been excellent this season and the Gambler batters have been consistent right through the line up, so the zone final should be a dandy. sikkens Cetol 1 and Cetol 23 Sikkeré >!
