Skateboarding! Is it a passing fad or is it here to stay? According to many it is here to stay and it is time that Scugog made a place for the kids to "board" safely out of the way of pedestrians and motorists. In Uxbridge Township, a "half pipe" skateboard ramp has recently been constructed in Goodwood and a skateboard club formed. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to dark, and all users must wear protective knee and elbow pads, and a helmet. Maybe it's time for Scugog to take a look at providing some kind of facility for area youngsters. The Mayor made the com- ments at council meeting and not- ed the "half-pipe" that was recent- ly constructed on park land in Goodwood, west of Port Perry. "I think it is time we (coun- cil) did something for the skater- boarders in this community," the Mayor stated. He noted that there have been complaints raised in the commu- nity about skateboarders on the streets and sidewalks. The "half-pipe" ramp in Good- wood was a joint effort by Ux- bridge Township and a group of young skateboarders. Uxbridge paid half the $2500 cost and the young people formed a club to raise the remainder of the money. Club members are responsible for policing the facility and making sure that young people using it wear the proper safety equipment. The ramp in Goodwood has proved so popular that Uxbridge council is now in the process of planning to put in a similar ramp in a park in the town of Uxbridge. Earlier this summer, a group of young skateboard enthusiasts from Port Perry had an informal discussion with a member of the Port Perry staff about how to ap- proach Scugog council to see about setting about a half-pipe ramp in one of the municipal parks in Port Perry. * Kitchen Cabinetry PRODUCTS and SERVICES for the BUILDING INDUSTRY « Residential Design, Drafting and Bluepnnting Services «Doors and Mouldings + Windows - Steel Cladding « Roof Trusses Durham Road 23 at Conc. 9 R.R. 4, UXBRIDGE, ONTARIO DON'T BE A SLAVE TO HARD WATER!
