Where all the action happens the same day PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, August 23, 1988 -- 13 Blackstock's 123rd Fair happens this week It's almost here--the 123rd annu- al Blackstock Fair, "where all the action happens the same day!" This Saturday August 27 marks a bigger and even more exciting version of this country favourite, and as long as the weather cooper- ates, hard-working fair organizers should be rewarded with an excel- lent day. All the action starts at 9:30 a.m. when the buildings open (chock full of vegetable and grain displays, concession booths, and the friendly animals of Old Mac- Donald's Farm) and the midway roars to life. At 10:30 a.m., the 4-H Achievement Days program gets underway. Spectators will be treat- ed to a look at the varied skills of our local young people. At the same time, folks of all ages can give their throwing arms work-outs in the Horseshoe Pitch- ing contest--a real old-fashioned competition, guaranteed to put a smile on anyone's face. Better be in Blackstock early to get a good spot to watch the pa- rade from. Always a crowed- pleaser, the parade will be even more fun this year with the addi- tion of the DS Ethnic Band and amazing entertainer Dale Page (whom you probably enjoyed at Port Perry's Festival Days). When the parade winds onto the fairgrounds, the fair will officially open, and the Horse Show begins. Again, there'll be some stiff com- petition, and a good display of . equestrian skills. - Doing well at the Cattle Show (starting at 12:30) is a matter of pride and honour for many area farmers--look for some fine ani- mals in this show. Throughout the day there'll be attractions for everyone, including magic shows performed by Cathy Stu Garland, incredible per- formers who delight old and young alike. Be sure to see the Hoskin Stables Musical Ride, justifiably famous for their precision riding. For a real laugh, don't miss the Farm Olympics, with some coun- trified competition that will make Seoul's games pale in compari- son. For chocolate lovers (who isn't?), the Champion Chocolate Cake Auction is a must-see, must-participate event. Nobody can beat the taste of the delicious cakes whipped up by the entrants-- but if you plan to bid, bring a fat wallet--the Champion Chocolate Cake never goes cheap! Of course, there's the milking contest, a guaranteed giggle (no one will reveal just what is being milked yet--organizers always save the surprise until the last minute), and the enjoyable sunflower and scare crow competitions. You also won't want to miss the All Terrain Vehicle Pull, or Mercury motor stolen An Oshawa man who parked his pick-up truck at the Port Perry boat launch overnight, lost an outboard motor and a gas can to thieves. The incident happened sometime between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. Au- gust 17. A 1985 20 horsepower Mercury outboard, and a five gal- lon red gas can were stolen from the back of the pick-up. Total value of the goods is esti- mated at $1,600. Durham Region- al Police are investigating. the talents of the Pineridge Clog- dance for all ages will be held in gers, or a real old-fashioned Horse the Rec Centre from 9 p.m. to 1 Pull. Great stuff! Admission to the fair itself is a As you can see, when they say real bargain, only $3 for adults, the Blackstock Fair is "where all a.m. with Bakerline D.J. in charge $1.50 for high school students, the action happens the same day", And to polish the whole day of of the discs.
