XL Eagles thump out Uxbridge The Port Perry XL Eagles re- bounded in style by pounding out a 5-2 win over the Uxbridge River Valley team to tie the O.A.S.A. in- termediate 'C' zone final at one game each. Larry Pilkey was moved to the lead off position and responded with a home run, two triples and a single in four appearances to lead the XL Eagles to victory. Ken Irvine pitched a solid five hit- ter while striking out five as well. Pilkey led off the game with a homer which landed on top of the fence in centre field before boun- cing over to give Port a quick 1-0 lead. In the second inning the Eagles increased their lead to 4-0 on a bunt single by Paul Graham, a dropped fly ball to let Ken Bryant on, a squeeze bunt by Rick Blohm and a triple by Pilkey. Uxbridge scored in the third in- ning on Al Harrison's double and a sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly. Port made it 5-1 on Pilkey's se- cond triple and Doug Christie's ground ball error to the short stop. Uxbridge completed the scoring in the sixth on back to back singles and an error by the Port Perry centre field. Game three originally schedul- ed for Sunday, August 21 was not to be as Uxbridge refused to play because they only had been given six days notice to play and couldn't or wouldn't field a team as it inconvenienced them to play on the weekend. After much discussion by our convenor, Lynn Cook with their misinformed convenor who doesn't know the rule book very well considering he has been around thirty years, Frank Hendy, the final game has been set for this Sunday, August 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the north dia- mond in Port Perry. Be there, it will be exciting. In league play the Eagles pounded out a 9-1 win over the struggling Oshawa Juniors to take a firm grip on fourth place in the five team loop. Lawrie Williams and Ken Irvine supplied the steady pitching while Port pounded out ten hits in the lopsid- ed victory. This week Port hosts Oshawa ACL on Thursday night at 8:30 Scugog youth soccer house league scores SQUIRT DIVISION Last week's action saw Van Camp Construction overcome the Royal Canadian Legion 5-0 and Port Perry Star and Classic Photos battled to a 1-1 tie. Ryan Moynes led the way for Van Camp with three goals with a single go- ing to Blayne Kinnunen. In the other game Adam Hobbs scored the lone goal for Port Perry Star with Alex Dell scoring for Classic Photos. ATOM DIVISION Make up games were played last Tuesday for ones rained out earlier in the season. Gord Lewis Motors were up against Taylor Ford Mercury with Prestige Hair up against Rent & Save. In a hard fought game for first place Gord Lewis and Taylor Ford battled to a 2-2 tie. Taylor Ford jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals from John Schewaga and Tommy UXBRIDGE SWIM CLUB Chambers, but Gord Lewis never gave up and goals by Robbie Mur- phy and Aaron Lafontaine forced the tie. In the other game Prestige Hair were convincing winners over Rent and Save by a score of 5-0. Three goals by Shaun Walsh and two from Matt Phillips was enough for Prestige Hair to con- tinue the winning ways as they creep closer to the top two teams. Wednesday's games saw Taylor Ford taking on Rent & Save with Gord Lewis playing Prestige Hair. John Schewaga was a one man wrecking crew as he scored six goals as Taylor Ford dominated Rent & Save 9-0. The other scorers for Taylor Ford were Matt Brown with two and Matt Baxter with the single. Gord Lewis with goals from Jeff Clarke, Robbie Murphy, Kevin Hobbs and Aaron Lafontaine beat a determined Prestige Hair team Learn to be the best you can be!
