a Cr a ilding After Scugog's "block-buster" construction year in 1987, its hard to believe that building permit val- ues in 1988 are ahead of last years incredible pace. A building permit report handed down to council on Monday, indi- cates that that 1988's pace is about $4 million ahead of last year, and if building continues to progress at the same rate we could see permits shad in the amount of $50 mil- ion. Much of the increase is attribut- ed to single family dwellings per- mits which is $4 million ahead of last year at just under $26 million by the end of July. With 34 less permits issued for homes this year, indications are that both the cost and size of houses within the township is getting larger. ~ Addituons and alterations to sin- gle family dwellings are up by about $600,000 this year with 114 permits taken out in 1988 com pared to only 57 in 1987. Although permit values are up in general, there are a few areas lagging behind last years record pace. Commercial building is down about $100,000 from last year at $695,000.; Permits for commercial additions and altera- tions is half that of last year's $733,370.; industrial and agricul- tural permits are down over fifty percent with only $284,500 in per- mits being issued in 1988; and fatazes and carports are about 80,000 less than in 1987 with $242,536. being issued at the end of July this year. Total dollar value of permits is- sued in the Township at the end of stand at $29,717,352.78, compared to 1987 with $25,899.294.00. . adilinliiiondts © Developments like Victorian Village (above) In Port Perry have helped to make 1988 a record year for building In Scugog Township.
