28 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, September 13, 1988 " Cup Day concludes Soccer 10th birthday score of 2-1 after a shoot-out. Scor- ing for Homestead was Sarah Brown, with Neil Hancock netting (Turn to page 30) The 10th anniversary season of the Scugog Youth Soccer Club came to a close last Saturday with the annual Cup Day program at the Soccer Fields. With sunny skies above the action and skills put out by all players was en- Joyable to see. Mini-Division This division is strictly for the little ones to have fun as well as learn the basic skills. The six teams in this group played two games each. There was some good action during the day and all the players put forth a solid effort. Next year the skills and techni- ques learned by all these youngsters will hold them in good standing for the next level of soc- cer. Trophies were presented to all the players at the end of the se- cond game and they each receiv- ed a photo and pennant as a memento of the season. Results of the day were Lake Scugog Lumber winning 4-0 against Big V Drug Store and 3-1 = against Sportsland. The scorers were Mike Demaio, Mark Kuiken and Chris Skerratt for Lake Scugog Lumber and Thomas Kit- tle for Big V. Ridge North Realty tied both games 0-0 against Cana- dian Tire and Big V. The Rotary Club also tied both their games 0-0 against Sportsland and 1-1 against Canadian Tire. Scoring for the Rotary was David Halward and for Canadian Tire, Philip Krohn. Squirt Division In this division each team had three games to play and the even- tual winner would be worthy of the Cup Day Trophy. The day started off with The Royal Cana- dian Legion overcoming Classic Photos 3-0 and Port Perry Star ty- ing Van Camp Construction 1-1. Scoring for the Legion were Troy Campbell with two and Robbie Bredin with a single. Adam Hobbs got the Star an early lead, but late in the game Ryan Moynes of Van Camp scored on a penalty shot to tie it up. The next game had The Legion and Van Camp tying 0-0, with the Star getting by Classic Photos 3-0. Scoring for the Star were Tyler Wootton with two and Adam Hobbs with the third goal. This set the stage for Port Perry Star to play the Royal Canadian Legion for the Cup. In a close and exciting game the Star came out on top by a score of 1-0. Scoring the winning goal for the Star was Spencer Roth. In the other game Van Camp with two goals from Adam Brain and one by Aaron Thomas secured the runners-up spot with a 3-0 victory over Classic Photos. Again players were presented with their trophies, photos and pennants to cap off the day. Atom Division The Atom Division was also full of action and plenty of goals for all to see. In the first game Gord Lewis Motors came out with nothing but offence in mind. With Kevin Hobbs leading the way with five goals they defeated Rent and Save 10-0. Also scoring for Gord Lewis were Kristan Wootton and Aaron Lafontaine with two each and a single going to Jeff Gunn. In the other game Taylor Ford Mercury with a pair of goals each from Kevin Gray and John Schewaga got by Prestige Hair 4-0. The next game saw Gord Lewis and Taylor Ford locking up in a real battle. Tommy Chambers gave Taylor Ford the - early lead, but Jeff Clarke scored near the end of the game to secure the tie for Gord Lewis. Prestige Hair with two goals from both Matt Phillips and Andrew Martin and a single from Shaun Walsh overcame Rent and Save 5-0. The third and final games were Taylor Ford up against Rent and Save with Gord Lewis taking on Prestige Hair. Taylor Ford's Kevin Gray with three goals and John Schewaga with two provid- ed the team with a 5-0 win over Rent and Save to secure their finish as Cup Day Champions. In the other game Gord Lewis tied Prestige Hair 1-1. Shaun Walsh got the early goal for Prestige Hair with Robbie Murphy tying it up. This gave Gord Lewis the run- ner up spot for the Cup Day Tour- nament. Presentations were made to all the Atom players at the conclusion of the games.
