More concern about garbage Scugog Island Area News by Mrs. Earl Reader It is interesting to realize more Island people are becoming con- cerned re - their garbage and recycling. We have heard of some who have already decided to wash their cans and jars and made ar- rangement to leave them in Port Perry blue boxes. It is no honour to hear that Canada has more garbage than most countries just because we have had plenty of everything. Recently Mrs. Marion Carter spent two weeks in Edmonton with her daughter Ann and fami- ly and enjoyed the progress of her 2 little grandchildren. Ann is now conducting quilting classes as she has always enjoyed this craft and produced some beauties herself. Last weekend Betty and Nelson Reader spent a couple of days with friends who had moved to Simcoe. Once in a while we hear of peo- ple who are suffering from im- mobility due to back and feet pro- blems and not able to find much relief or cure. Two such people are Mrs. Edith Davis and Mrs. Joan Aldred. Mrs. Davis may have experienced strain while in long distance travel thro' many southern states this summer, thus spoiling much of the pleasure. When we hear of these incidents, it makes us realize how we may take our own good health for granted and forget to give thanks. This week the "Head" U.C.W. and friends may be seen at the Hospital Tuck Shop. It is becom- ing more difficult to fill 10 periods of afternoon and evening because of health problems and age. Is it possible for some other ladies to donate 11% hours to 2 hours a week about every 2 or 3 months? It real- ly can be an interesting period and really not strenuous. Please let us know if you can help. As you will see by the paper, the "Golden Slippers' shared their time and talents again for your pleasure at the Manchester Church Anniversary Sun., Sept. 18. If you haven't purchased or reserved your tickets for the "Head" U.C.W. Turkey Supper for next Wed., you'd better hurry, while you can reach Bonnie Gerrow. Social Planning Council star- ting Mon., Sept. 26. Plan to attend. Greenbank area news by Muriel Gibson Friends from Holland and Marie Assink of Uxbridge, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Antoine Minten on Sunday. On Thursday evening the Brian Gibson's and Jim and Judy Gib- son attended the Blue Jay game in Toronto. Our sympathy goes out to Jean Pogue, in the loss of her husband, Lloyd. Rachel McMillan attended a shower for her great niece Sharon Snoddon in Sunderland on Sunday. Congratulations to Tom Thorn's team for winning at the annual 3 pitch tournament, and would like to thank all captains, volunteers and ball players, for showing up, and participating in a great weekend. Glenn Spence manages this tournament every year and con- gratulates the most valuable players, Carol Couch and Kevin Cleverdon. There was a good attendance at our U.C.W. last Tuesday. Mr. Glen Langford's message was very informative and his trom- bone music was delightful. Gifts were given to Aleta Leask and Arvella Phoenix, as they are mov- ing from our community.
