Pre-election Party fun at Social Club Utica and Area News by Vera Brown Church and Sunday School will be held here in Utica this Sunday beginning at 11:15 a.m. There will be a pulpit exchange as Rev. Waterman is speaking at Udora's Anniversary, so Rev. King of Udora will be leading our services. Have some fun Myrtle news by Sonja Graham Everyone that attended the Ashburn T-Ball and Baseball Banquet had an enjoyable Sunday evening. The fresh air gave the kids a big appetite, and along with their parents they consumed large quantities of hot dogs, corn and donuts. The children were later presented with trophys and team photos. Everyone had a good time and the evening was very well organized. A thank you goes to all the people involved with coaching and-also to everyone who spon- sored the teams. Mom's and Tots in Ashburn has started once again, on Thursday mornings from 9:30 - 11:30. Anyone wishing to join or wanting more information can give Christa Downes a call at 655-3985. A tragic fire occurred at the Dickhoff home in Myrtle Station last Tuesday afternoon. Luckily, no one was injured, but severe fire and smoke damaged the house and it's contents. The com- munity joined together and of- fered housing, food and clothing for the family of eight. Apple Festival Here is some exciting news for members of our communities ser- vice and church organizations. The Port Perry downtown merchants association are inviting us to take part in an on-street bake sale on Saturday, October 8th. The promotion, which will be. advertised extensively in newspa- per and radio, is called the Thanks- giving "Big Apple Festival" and it is a chance for our community groups to participate and earn funds for future projects. Spaces (at no charge) on Queen Street for anyone wishing to par- ticipate will be assigned by con- tacting Brenda Armstrong at 985- 9744. And, there will be cash priz- es awarded to participants for "best display" and for "best apple pie". This is a perfect idea for any of our clubs who would like to take part. Ladies, please bring finger foods. Following the Church service, the Youth Group will be leaving from the Church to go for lunch to Oshawa and tour Canadian Automotive Museum. On Sunday there was a service of Holy Baptism when Heather Barbara Hawks, daughter of Tom and Kate was welcomed into our congregation. The Hawks family has just recently moved into a home on the Mast Road and we welcome them to the community. There were 10 tables of euchre played on Friday evening in the Hall. Winners were Ladies 1st Iva Yake, 2nd was Bernice Loudfoot and 3rd was Bernice Daniels. Men's 1st was Bert Daniels, 2nd Irwin Kydd and 3rd Owen Gray. Freeze-out winners were Irwin Kydd and Iva Yake, Verna Smith and Erma Watson were second. Winners of the lucky draw were Dora Geer, Mary Cannon and Rachael Harper. There will be another euchre in two weeks. Drivers beware - The new speed limit signs are up from Regional Road 21 north through the village. Doreen Kendall and Irene . Fielding took in the Historical Society's bus tour to St. Jacobs on Saturday. Recent visitors with Mrs. Crosier were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Harrington of R.R. 1, Woodville. Epsom-Utica U.C.W. September meeting was held at the home of Eileen Slute this past Tuesday at 8 p.m. The president welcomed everyone and the U.C.W. Purpose was repeated.
