Committee member Barb Carne- gie says the name was changed to ive the shop a new image, and to et people know the clothes are for sale to the public. She complains that many peo- ple assumed the clothes were "give-aways" to low-income fami- lies, busi that is just not true. Operation Scugog does, in fact, run a food bank out of the same location, but the clothing store operates in a different section. Funds raised from the clothes, however, support the rent for the food bank and the entire Operation Scugog project. Financially, things haven't been going so hot for the clothing store. Mrs. Carnegie says the rea- son is because most people in Scugog assume it is a "clothing bank", not a clothing store. She also says some people have a hang-up about buying used clothing--although they shouldn't, because some of the trendiest clothes shops in Toronto sell the same kind of outfits as Second Debut. She's hoping the new name will help people get over their hang- ups, and bring them in for a look at the merchandise. Clothing donations are always welcome at Second Debut; but Mrs. Carnegie says they must be in season, as there is absolutely no. room to store clothes that aren't. So at this time of year, sweat- ers, coats and warm clothing only is accepted. Items must also be clean and preferably . All sizes, and styles for all age groups are gratefully accepted. Donations aside, buyers can have a virtual field day poking through the racks at Second De- but.
