Scugog Island Area News by Mrs. Earl Reader First of all I want to express my appreciation to the Port Perry staff for the beautiful paper they issued last week. As a long time resident, it gave me special pleasure to again see past pictures and be reminded of past events in town and communi- ty. Many memories were stirred up when we were reminded of the accomplishments, community endeavours, youth organizations, life of former citizens within various businesses and we com- pare the progress and give thanks for the previous foresight. Here we have been saving clip- pings for years and we find much of it all in one paper. We look at the faces of the pre- sent Port Perry staff and feel pro- ud to know them when we realize their dream, hard work and plan- ning in going through 25 years of pictures and news items from the whole area and having to make choices. I don't imagine you'll find a harder working or more genial staff anywhere. [ understand tickets this year for the "Head" U.C.W. The next event sponsored by the "Head" U.C.W. will be the "Harvest Home" annual service in the "Head Memorial' Museum Church on the Sunday evening in Oct. before Thanksgiving at 7:30 p.m. and that means next Sun. In the past, the guest speakers have been ministers from dif- ferent areas and with different in- terests. This year it will be a lit- tle different as the guest speaker will be Mr. Allan MacGillivray, who is presently the curator of the: Uxbridge, Scott Museum. He was an elementary school teacher in the area for 17 years and has learned much of the area history in that time. Of course his work is also appealing to children and may interest more of the young people as well as the older ones who love to attend every year to enjoy the old hymns, an old fashioned atmosphere renewed in surroundings, singing by the Scugog Historical Choir, led by Norman Watson and a social time "with former friends and lots ot pie. or lighter snacks.
