The day began with B & L Donuts versus Utica Farm Equipment. B & L were disap- pointed by having 2 goals disallowed in the first period. With mounting pressure Kenneth Fraser and Bart Wagar set up Utica's Ken Lynde who scored the winning goal with 1:02 remaining in the game. The second game featuring Blackstock Merchants and the Oddfellows arrived at a similar resuit. Tom Wotten of Blackstock knotched an unassisted goal at the end of the first period Blackstock held on to win with a score of 1-0 The final game of the dav was 'action starts played by Emmerson's Insurance . and Goreski's. Emmerson's John Gerber and Henry Elste both were credited with a goal and an assist along with Greg Davis receiving an assist allowing their team to take a 2-0 lead. Goreskis awoke in the second period with goals scored by Dave Dickson, Paul West, and Mike Mitchell. The assists were award- ed to Pat Cook, Mike Mitchell, Joe Parkinson, with two. With 1:33 remaining, Goreskis took the lead and went on to win the game with a score of 3-2. . Broomball may be watched at Scugog Arena every Sunday from 4 p.m. to7 p.m. There is no entry charge . x7 4+ thar pls ved the first exhibition game of the <cuson Sunday afternoon in Newmarket and were defeated 7-3 - by the Schomberg Junior C's. Despite the score, MoJack team officials were not unhappy with the way the team played. General manager Murray Parlia- ment said after the game he was expecially encouraged with the strong third period turned in by the MoJacks. This was just the fourth time the MoJacks have been on the ice together this season. Schomberg on the other hand has been work- ing for more than two weeks and played three exhibition games prior to Sunday's encounter. Brad Menzies had a goal and an assist for the MoJacks and Jeff Fitchett also had a goal. As of Sunday night, the Mo- Jacks had 15 players signed to cards for the coming season, in- cluding seven who played all their minor hockey in Port Perry. The MoJacks have signed one goaltender to date; Jeff Lynch who uas been very impressive, through the early training camp. The team has two more exhi- bition games lined up for this week. On Thursday evening, (Sept.29) the MolJacks will jour- ney to Ajax for a contest with the Axemen, and this coming Sunday evening (Oct. 2) the Axemen will be the opposition at the Scugog Arena. Both games are sct for 7:30. : Sunday's pre-season match will be the first chance for Junior -C fans in Scugog to get a look at the MoJacks as they prepare for the opening of the regular sched- ule opener on Oct. 11 in Madoc. The MoJacks expect to sign several more players to cards fol- lowing the exhibition games this week. Ladies golf The Ladies League of Sunny Brae Golf Club wound up the season with their closing banquet September 20th, held at the Port Perry Curling Club. Following a delicious roast beef dinner, catered by Mrs. Toni Min- ton and her staff, the ladies ad- journed to the lounge, where prizes and draw gifts were distributed. Vera Brown's "Most Improved Golfer Award' went to Mary Andrews. Vice President June Haynes (our hole-in-one lady of the year) presented President Tia wooa- croft with a lovely flower ar- rangement on behalf of the league. During the season, the league enjoyed several tournaments with the Lindsay, Crestwood, Ux- bridge and Summerlea clubs, with special in-club events, in- cluding craft night and harvest night, where home crafted or cooked items were exchanged. Allin all, the seventy-two ladies present had a great evening of fellowship to close the 1988 year of golf. and Dave Dickson.
