(see story) IGA Port Perry & Jim Grieve PHILP pontsuick & Bryce Philp Trader Sam's & Sam Chiusolo Arm wrestlers getting ready On Saturday, September 24, Port Perry Armwrestling Team travelled to western Ontario to compete in the Stratford Fall Fair Armwrestling Tournament, hosted and organized by the Lon- don Armwrestling Club. In the Lightweight category, Mark Gardner, Canadian Na- tional Champion, took first place, with Mike Haigh (sponsored by Schildt Machining Limited, Port Perry) placing second and Pat Mastrangelo, also of Port Perry Armwrestling, finishing in third place. In"the Middleweight division, Paul Engel of Kitchener, Cana- dian Open Champion, defeated Rick Erwin, who was just recent- ly welcomed as a member of Port Perry Armwrestling team; Rick took second place and Garth Carlson (sponsored by Wiggans Landscaping, Bowmanville), also of Port Perry Armwrestling team, finished in third place. Two other team members, Dan Wells (who is the other recent ad- dition) and John Roberts, both pulled strongly to fourth and fifth "place finishes in the Middleweight division, which was the most heavily-entered of the event. New John Deere As has become a tradition, the Port Perry team donated a hand- some plaque to the Most Sport- smanlike Competitor in the Tour- nament, and elected to award this to Terry Dorsser of Seaforth, On- tario, who also took home top honours in the Flyweight category. As a matter of record, the Lon- don Area has the largest and strongest Armwrestling Club in the province, if not in Canada; it has produced numerous National, International and World Cham- pions, and the Port Perry team is pleased that they are finally mak- ing a dent in team London's domination of the sport. Port Perry Armwrestling Team has been doubling it's training ef- forts over the last month, and will continue the intense practice ses- sions in preparation for the Cana- dian Stand-Up Armwrestling Championships; this is a Pro-Am event which will be held in Toron- to on Saturday, October 15th, 1988.
