- FhFwi CF wcocdenaben: vemRag 4 FiAr 32 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, September 27, 1988 - Volunteersneeded for Scouts organization Seagrave and Area News by Ann Sandiford Well, it's that time of year again. The Scouting season is upon us and unfortunately, again, we are having to ask most sincerely for help from the Com- munity to allow this season to be a success. The parents meeting and registration last Tuesday was both a success and a failure. In terms of turn out, it was a failure, but from those that were there we were able to get a Secretary, a Treasurer and also a Beaver Leader for Seagrave. This means that Greenbank/Seagrave will have the following sections. Greenbank Beavers Monday nights 6-7 p.m. at the Greenbank Hall, Leaders Diane Brown 985-8325 and Carol Couch 985-9987. Seagrave Beavers Tuesday nights 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Seagrave United Church. Leaders Bill Slute 985-8254 and Elizabeth Naschke 985-3432. Greenbank/Seagrave Cubs are Wednesday nights 7:00-8:30 p.m. - at the Seagrave United Church. Leaders Donna & Paul Lonergon 1-705-786-2702 (Little Britain). Greenbank/Seagrave Scouts Thursday night 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Seagrave United Church. Leader Paul Lonergan 1-705-786-2602. As you can see, Paul & Donna Lonergan are put- ting a lot of time into "Scouting"' in our area and can certainly use your support. We have the leaders and most of our group committee but we still need a chairperson and a vice-chairperson. Please consider these positions. There is another meeting Monday, October 3rd at 7:30 p.m. at Betty Williams home, 7 Robinglade Drive, 985-8563. Please! Please! Please!!!!!.......catch the "Scouting Spirit' and keep it alive in our community. We do need your help and support to give our children a happy and suc- cessful year. "Boy Scout Apple Day" will be held Saturday, October 15th. "Be Prepared" to see our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts out. IT'S A BOY!! Congratulations to the Cooke family, Paul, Diane and Katherine on the arrival of THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF SCUGOG 1988 MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS NOTICE to CANDIDATES Every person who proposes to be a Candidate in the 1988 Township of Scugog Municipal Elections for the Office of Mayor, Regional Councillor, Area Councillor, Ward Councillor or School Trustee, must file a Notice of Registration with the "Township Clerk no later than October 17, 1988. No person who proposes to be a Candidate may solicit or ac- cept contributions for the purpose of the elections or incur campaign expenses until that person has filed a Notice of - Registration with the Clerk. Candidates are required to take notice and govern themselves accordingly. Registration forms and full particulars of procedures.to be followed may be obtained from the undersigned. Earl S. Cuddie Clerk-Administrator & Chief Elections Officer Michael Anthony. Michael was born last Wednesday afternoon at 5:25 p.m. at the Port Perry Hospital, weighing 9 1bs., 2% ozs. I am sure Katherine can't wait to have her new brother home as I am sure Paul is looking forward to having Diane and Anthony home. He really is a cute little guy and is starting to look like Katherine already. We have another item that again will require the help of the community. It's time to clean up and do some maintenance on the Seagrave Park. This annual event, which is only for a few hours on October 15th, means that we will have a clean, well main- tained park. Obviously, the more people we get out to help, the less work is involved for everyone. What better way to enjoy a nice fall morning, that joining in with your neighbours and friends to have some good old fashioned comraderie & friendship and at the same time spruce up the park. The time of this event is 9:00 and as usual we ask you to bring your own rake and shovel and anything else you think might be needed. A reminder....... the first meeting of the Robinglade Ladies Group is this coming Thursday at 8:00 at Kaye Nicol's home. As this is the first meeting, our annual fee is due this week and as well, there will be a 50/50 draw. Hope to see everyone there. As we're enjoying this super fall weather, hope everyone is enjoy- ing the Olympics. Guess what everyone!!! We just might have an Olympic hopeful for the 1992 Olympics right here in Seagrave. Belated congratulations to Steve Desautels. Steve competed in many canoeing events this summer and has done an ab- solutely super job, coming home - with the "gold" and "silver" each time. Back in the Spring of this year Steve competed in the Marsh Mash in Port Perry and brought home the gold. In July Steve entered the Ontario Provincial Canoe Races which was held in London and came home with the silver medal. Then came the big race. In August this year, Steve and his family travelled to St. George New Brunswick for the Canadian Nationals. Unfortunate- ly Steve's partner wasn't able to be there and Steve found himself with a new partner from Quebec. After a shakey start, which found the boys dumping the canoe, they carried on to "BRING HOME tials as Mr. Cope was the former Commadore of the Balmy Beach Canoe Club and the founder of the Scugog Canoe Club which was the organization that sparked the in- terest of Steve and many other fine young people in our area. Seagrave United Church celebrated its 82nd Anniversary Sunday, Sept. 25th. Mary Kellogg, Past President of Bay of Quinte Conference was the guest speaker. She brought to us an enlightening report from the United Church conference held in Victoria, B.C. this past summer. 'Musical numbers were beautiful. Our thanks to our own Seagrave Choir, Mr. Robert Gordon on the violin and Mr. Alex Ingram play- ing his flute. Miss Melanie Lee ac- companied by her mother Mrs. Joan Lee favoured us with a beautiful solo. A light lunch followed the service. Pinedale Anniversary Church service is planned for Oct. 16th at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Art Rodgers as guest speaker. Everyone welcome. That's it for this week, for news items next week, please call Diane Puckrin at 985-2489. Best wishes on 96th birthday Epsom and Area News by Jean Jeffery A happy 96th birthday for Mr. Wm..
