Thanksgiving at Epsom School Epsom and Area News by Jean Jeffery It is over a month since I last wrote about our Epsom School children, Last week grades 3 and 4 enjoyed a field trip to Palace St. in Epsom where they did an in- sect study under the direction of Kawartha Conservation Authorities. The teachers were thrilled with the turnout on Curriculum Night. Almost 100 percent of the families were present. We appreciate your support. The children of Epsom were in- vited to attend Greenbank Public School Book Fair where they pur- chased their favourite book. The profits from the book sales was turned back into new books for Epsom Public School Library. Thanks to Mary Evans for sup- plying us with materials and to Faye Simmonds for making our beautiful "Thanksgiving Harvest" display in the front foyer. (It is well worth dropping in to see!) On Oct. 6th the staff and students dressed as Indians and Pilgrims and re-enacted the First Thanksgiving. The children prepared the vegetables for the soup, made the biscuits and polished apples the day before. Language activities focused around the Thanksgiving theme. The highlight was when Pilgrims and Indians alike gave thanks and enjoyed one another's company. "Thank You" to Big Brother Doug Wilson who shared some timely thoughts with us. On Oct. 11 a representative from the Lung Association will visit Epsom School to show age appropriate films on How To Keep Healthy Lungs For Life. On Oct. 12, Calvin Davis will speak to Grade 3 and 4 classes. He has some fabulous specimens and a fund of information. On Oct. 19th the children of Ep- som will be bussed to Greenbank Public School for a presentation by Rocky the Robot on Street Safety. The programme is spon- sored by Durham Regional Police. A representative from CN Safe- ty Police will be at Epsom Public School on Oct. 20th at 9 a.m. to do a railway safety talk and slide show. Oct. 31st of course things will be a buzzing with staff and students enjoying Hallowe'en activities. Thank you to Wendy Andrews and Joanne Hansen for co- ordinating our hotdog days. They will be contacting those who volunteered to help. Parents and other friends in the community are welcome to visit us for any activities held in Ep- som Public School. Ian and Marlene Archibald, Joanne and Andrew were Sun. supper guests with Marlene's parents, Earl and Marie Wilson.
