Miriam Price, a life-long resi- dent of Port Perry, has announced her intention to seek this seat in the November 14 municipal elec- tions. She told the Star last week there are several concerns that have prompted her to seek election to the Township council this year. One issue she strongly be- lieves needs to be pursued is bus service from Port Perry to connect with the GO-Transit trains, espe- cially once the rail line is extended from Pickering to Oshawa. The need for more parkin in the central business core of Perry is an issue in this Ak she stated, and she feels the mu- nicipal council "must take an ac- tive role" in attempting to make more parking available. Mrs. Price also said if elected, she will pay attention to the "small concerns" that people may have. These concerns may not be important to others, but they are Sl Sasi + kA Dy Torr a TE SY BIST Ua fon SCE important to the people who raise them. "We (council) must start lis- tening to these little concems," she stated. Future development is not ne- Cay a bad thing, if handled properly by the Township. "We can't stop people who want to come here to live." But the Township must try to convince Durham Region that fu- ture development needs sewer ser- vices and that would mean an ex- pansion to the capacity of the present treatment system in Port Perry. As for the recreation facilities in the Township, Mrs. Price be- lieves they must be expanded, and - the feasibility study to be com- pleted next year is a step in the right direction. The preservation of parkland "on the lakefront in Port rt Perry is an important issue for Mrs. Price, and she also feels the Township should be doing more to "spruce up" the parkland and make them more attractive. Although this will be her first attempt at elected office, Mrs. Price is well known in the com- munity for her work with the Chamber of Commerce. She has been a member of the Chamber for 12 years, served two years as president and for many years worked as chairperson for the San- ta Claus Parade. For 13 years, she operated her clothing store, the Pink Dot, on Queen Street. She now has her own company, Signature M for specialized sewing and the design- ing of childrens clothing. The other three candidates to date who have declared their inten- tions to run in Ward 2 are Marilyn Pearce, Keith Charles and 1 Dave Mount. ae ---- Miriam Price, a former president of the Scugog Chamber of Commerce has announced her Intention to seek the Ward 2 (Port Perry) seat In the up-coming elections.
