Fi a 28 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, October 18, 1968 Colin Dodd new president of soccer club Colin Dodd has been named the president of the Scugog Youth Soccer Club for the 1989 season. Mr. Dodd, who has a long as- sociation with soccer in the com- munity, takes over from Ron Co- sway. He will remain active with the association in its efforts to build a new washroom-club house facility at the soccer fields on Simcoe Street. Mr. Dodd's appointment came at the club's annual meeting in Port Perry October 13. He told the meeting that one thing he hopes to be able to do in the 1989 season is encourage more soccer players in the 14-16 year age group. the 22 noted that this seems to be age when many players drop oh soccer. Mr. Dodd said that he will en- courage the formation of a team for competitive level soccer if there is sufficicnt interest from players who want to play at this level. The annual meeting was inter- rupted for a special presentation to members of the Homestead Furni- ture girls team which had a very successful season this past sum- mer, winning their league title in Durham. All members of the team were presented with sweaters, as were Chic Carnegie and Ralph Ballard from Homestead Furniture, the sponsor for the last ten years. The Soccer Association is now working on the preliminary plans for construction of a new building that will serve as equip- ment storage, washrooms, change rooms and canteen. Gary Adams, a Wintario con- sultant (Central Region) was present at the annual meeting to explain some of the details of Wintario grants and how to apply for them, He sald Nei Winiauo will cover one- of a capi ject like a new field house, if -- grant is approved. Applications can be made be- tween May and September, so it appears as if the club will have to wait until next to apply for fund- ing. If the application is approved, the money would be available in 1990. Other grants from Wintario are also available for such h things as new equipment like goal posts and for work on the fields, such as levelling and grading, he said. Wintario grants, he said are handed out on the basis of their merits and how badly an organiza- tion needs new facilities. The local soccer association believes that a new field-house would cost in the neighbourhood of $60,000. Also at the meeting last week, new executive members were ap- pointed in the following posi- tions. Marc Russell and Bob Mur- phy as vice presidents for travell- ing and house league teams; Linda Pellaske and treasurer; Rob New- combe as secretary and registrar; Jim Callan as chief referee; Alf Huggins and tournament chair- man; Ron Cosway as equipment manager; Don Farquharson and Bob Myers will handle the head coaching duties; Paul Sherwood as field manager. Rob Johnston and Barry Johnston were named as di- rectors. Other positions on the ex- ecutive will be filled prior to the start of the next soccer season.
