Malmont Atoms win it 6-1 The 1988-89 hockey season is finally underway and what better way to open the season for the Malmont Farm Atom team than with a 6-1 win over Oshawa. If this opening game is any indication of the type of outstanding plays we will be enjoying this year the fans are in for a real treat. The scoring started early in the game as Kenton LeFort blasted home the opening goal with 8 seconds into the game. Picking up the assists were Matt Morris and Tom Chambers. Jay Tredway chalked up his 1st of 2 goals late in the period as he rocketted a hard shot upstairs with Tommy and Matt once again assisting. Early in the 2nd period Jay King raced up the ice and let go with his powerful shot leaving the Oshawa net minder wondering what happened! For Port's next goal, defenceman Billy Zapparanik, with a burst of speed, blew past the Oshawa defence and banged in goal 4 with Craig Laird assisting. Jay Tredway and Ken- ton LeFort combined for Port's next goal scoring from a scram- ble in front of the net. Jeremy Geer scored Port's final game of the night blasting the puck past Tweens season underway On Sat., Oct. 15 the Allen's Siding Products Tweens opened their 1988-89 Ringette season in the CORL League against Mississauga. This year the team is playing Pov. 'A' as it was changed from Pov. B to A. In this game the girls were on the losing end of a 10-1 score. Our lone goal came in the middle of the second period and was scored by Valerie Payne and assisted by Shannon Fox and Michelle Fitzpatrick on a nice passing play. Our girls were played in dif- ferent positions by Coach Morden to find out where the strengths lie. This should prove to be an in- teresting year as we will meet up with some stiff competition. Our next game is Sun., Oct. 23 at 12:30 when we travel to Etobicoke. the Oshawa net minder. Goalies Scot Prechitko and Ian Shrigley played outstanding foiling many Oshawa attempts. Way to go boys.
