But time moves on and we missed so much, but we find it is still possible through the eyes of others who have spent much time and money in recor- ding their travels and are only too 'pleased to share their pleasures with the rest of us. These travelogues can be seen free at the Public Library on the first Thurs. of each month at 7:30 p.m. We are fortunate in having an Island lady who has travelled extensively and appreciates good pictures. Thro' a Travel Club she is in touch with many other travellers in our area and has ar- ranged a year of such free show- ings. Therefore this coming Thurs. you may see pictures of Mexico. So if your evening is free, here is a good chance to get out and enjoy a free trip and meet friends. From time to time Allan Mar- tyn's daughter Mildred and her husband Jim Nokes with their children visited the Island United. Now, we hear their daughter Carol, 19, is a very progressive and ambitious young lady in this age when so many young people are having such a struggle. Carol is very musical and while working in Brampton last sum- mer, went to hear the Continental Singers, at which time invitations were given for any people who were interested in joining. Carol was given an interview and was accepted for a tour through U.S. In this group there are 22 singers and 42 in all with musi- cians and workers. They practis- ed for 10 days, 8-10 hrs. a day in preparation for a tour of 22 states. They travel by bus and put their ams on in Churches and are billeted in the homes of Church members. They have programs every night and 2 on Sundays. Carol met the group in California to start this experience on Sept. 12. i The group will return to Califor- nia Nov. 19 and the next day they will leave for Amsterdam from where they will tour Holland, Belgium, W. Germany and Switzerland and return home Dec. 16 in time for Christmas. What an opportunity. for young ple! Naturally Carol's parents and Allan Martyn were interested so travelled to Zenia, east of Dayton, Ohio to meet with Carol and enjoy the concerts. She was able to stay with them for 2 nights as they travelled on to Fairhaven and the Indiana border, north of Cincinatti. In the band of 42 everyone has a job to do without questions or directions. Consequently set ups and withdrawals were well organized and done in record time. Sun. to Tues. was a memorable weekend for the family and loving support for Carol. We'll follow her next venture with interest. The "Head" U.C.W. will be held this Wed. evening at the home of Mrs. Marilyn Tripp. On Sun. at the Island United there was a speaker from the Canadian Bible Society. He was Rev. Blain MacLeod of Barrie. There was also a notation from Operation Scugog and the sugges- tion of a study of how many families that the Island United could be responsible for. This Fri. at the Island United there will be a Pot Luck Supper at 7 p.m. for young couples. Please MARILYN PEARCE Dull November days are upon us bring a main dish and or dessert with cutlery. There will be a later discussion of young people's interests and concerns. Last week 4 representatives from the Island United attended the Presbyterial meeting at Newcastle. There was a '"'Sur- prise" item on the program which lightened it up in a "Clown" skit. There will not be a paper collec- tion by the Cubs and Scouts this fall, for various reasons which you may guess. However, if you have been sav- ing your papers, please remember we have a recycling program. Therefore, it would be appreciated if you will take your papers to the Municipal Dump beside the Arena and I believe you will find a place there to receive them.
