10 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 8, 1988 SCUGOG TOWNSHIP MAYOR STANLEY TAYLOR Ladies & Gentlemen: As a newspaper Reporter Politician, Auctioneer, Valuator & Lay Minister, I take great Pleasure in conveying this message to you. A note was handed to me a few weeks ago which Reads something like this: The only time a Politician will listen to your complaints is before an election. Not Me, I will listen 365 days a year. : Another note asks me to Rename the wards such as Reach, Port Perry, Scugog and Cartwright. This was what Port Perry Fair was known when I exhibited Beef cattle here in Port Perry 45 to 50 years ago. When the Late Stuart or Charles Graham placed the awards. One of my opponents has asked me, Stan, why do you run for Mayor? My answer -- I would like to ad- vise the Police instead of them ad- vising me. ~ I assure you this question? should be No. 3 or 4 Down on the list. My Purpose was originally to have the Blackstock People respect me, especially the Direc- tors of Blackstock FAIR. Now I am not trying to infer a dead Per- son could guide the affair Better than they have Been done. I have since had complaints about three Parties involved to sell Port Perry Fairgrounds with Huge legal fees for the three par- ties involved. This I feel could have been avoided if a Man I knew 60 years ago had been here, the Late James McKenzie, Reeve of East Whitby Township would have said No No No No No No. This is warming like you hear now Days when these new Trucks are Backing up. What about these Meetings -- Nightly meetings to no avail. I am like a supreme court Judge I have to know if these are Real or hear say. Save the good land for agriculture. Being a farmer and businessman and councillor for 7 years I share with you the concern for the quali- ty of life within this community. Downtown parking facilities, the preservation of our water- front, controlled growth as Scugog's future role in the "metro-east' expansion, and con- tinued maintenance & upgrading of all our community facilities are just a few of our concerns. As your representative I will use my experience and knowledge to try to resolve these concerns and others. As your mayor I will encourage each community to work at and retain its individual charm, recognizing that each has a uni- que identity and that each plays its own role within Scugog. Together we will work to promote the common goal of "Keeping Scugog a Happy and Safe Place in which to Live." I respectfully ask for your vote on November 14, 1988. Just Because there is snow on the Roof, Does not say there is no fire in the furnace. Denture Therapy Clinie HOWARD HALL Howard Hall's active participa- tion in the life of this community has been well documented over the past 25 years both in business and his commitment to, and in- volvement in, all aspects of our community life. From a Cub and Scout leader in his early years to his current position as Councillor, Township of Scugog, Howard has aways been dealing with, working for, and helping people -- and people are what our community is all about. He is a long time resi- dent and family man who knows our Township, has served 2 terms on the Port Perry and Scugog Township Councils, has been a School Board Trustee, is current- ly the Region of Durham's ap- pointee to the Hospital Board and has been the Provincial Govern- ment's appointee to 2 Boards ser- ving the Region of Durham. Dur- ing his terms as Chairman of the Hospital Board and the Hospital Foundation, he was the driving force behind the raising of over 1 Million Dollars for Hospital ex- pansion and equipment. Appointed Chairman in 1974 (by Scugog Council) to the New Arena Committee, he saw this project through to its successful comple- tion 2 years later. In 1980 the Pro- vincial Government appointed Howard Chairman of the Durham Region District Health Council (an advisory body to the Minister of Health) and in this capacity he was directly involved with a ma- jor Role Study that identified the Health Care needs for the people of Durham Region into the next century. As the Mayor of Scugog, Howard is planning to devote all the time necessary to look after the interests of our Municipality. He also will be available at the Municipal Office on a daily basis. Howard is a proven leader who is capable of getting things done - a person who can provide a strong voice for the needs of Scugog at all levels of govern- ment - he knows the political system and how it works - con- cerned for the future of our Township and with over 25 years of successful business experience he can provide the leadership Scugog needs through the "80's and '90's. 1330 Ritson Rd. N., (Ritson at Taunton) . Oshawa, Ont. L1G 626 JOANNE DEKKING, D.T. Monday to Saturday 436-9888 HARVEY GRAHAM I consider it an honour to be a contender in the mayorality race. In my opinion, the office of Mayor is a position of responsibility, of leadership and of dedication. After six years of council ex- perience and many years of com- munity service, I would like to think that I am qualified for the position. I am not making a lot of pro- mises during my campaign but will outline my goals. First would be land use plann- ing and development control. Growth is essential but uncon- trolled development will destroy the character of our township. Street, road & sidewalk im- provements are needed. With traffic increasing it will be necessary to table for additional provincial subsidy dollars to pre- vent further deterioration of our road system. Recreational facility expansion is a very important issue. Expan- sion is necessary but has to be kept within the financial con- straints of our Township. I respectfully ask for your support.
