Atom B's in tournament The Pineridge Sports Atom "B's" saw action last weekend in ~ their first tournament of the year. Travelling to Little Britain on Friday night they played a hard fought contest with Fenelon Falls. The first period, although scoreless, was controlled by Fenelon Falls and Pineridge goaltender Brandon Hammond foiled their two big shooters time and time again. At the 12 second mark of the se- cond, Fenelon finally broke the deadlock only to have sniper Kent Taylor tie it up less than two minutes later. Assists for Kent's goal went to Darryl Moase and Todd Parry. After a slow start Port got their act together in the second half and matched the opposition shot for shot. Goaltenders Brandon Ham- mond and Darryl Holtby were outstanding throughout and kept our guys in it early. Lots of hus- tle by Jeff Clarke, Greg Thomp- son, Shawn Lewerentz, and Ryan Williams kept Fenelon off the board for the rest of the period. Midway through the third frame one of Fenelon's big guns got loose and scored what proved to be the final goal giving them a 2-1 victory. On Saturday, Nov. 5, dedicated parents had their charges in downtown Cannington at 6:15 a.m. for an early morning tilt against Sunderland. From the looks on most faces it would ap- pear that this portion of the day is not experienced often by many. The game was played on very sticky ice, flooded the night before and gave both teams fits for most of the game. After a scoreless first period and only 4 minutes re- maining in the second, Kent Taylor neatly tipped in a blast from the point by Shawn Lewerentz. Sunderland tied it up before the buzzer sounded. The third period had lots of end to end action but Sunderland added two unanswered goals to cap the scoring. Once again goaltending was strong keeping the score close 11 DAYS! Later on Saturday, the team regrouped in Oakwood to take on the local squad. This was by far the boy's best effort. Both offence and defence were firing on all cylinders. Pineridge opened the scoring with the lone goal of the first stan- za. Todd Parry assisted by Dar- ryl Moase fired one past the Oakwood goalie. Oakwood went on to score two goals early in the second to take a 2-1 lead. Not to be outdone, defenceman Brad Morton tied the score at 2 with a low drive to the goalies stick side assisted by Kevin Gray. Less than 2 minutes later Oakwood again scored from a scramble in front of the net. The score remained 3-2 until late in the third when Pineridge opted for the 6th attacker. This resulted in two empy net goals by Oakwood to put the game out of reach. Despite the score, this game showed signs that the team is about to turn the corner and resume their winning ways prevailent early in the season. Lots of experimentation went on this weekend with coaches Bryce Jones and Mike Prechitko trying different line combinations and strategies to turn things around. Team play in the last game looked encouraging. Good performances were turned in by Jason Logan, Ryan Williams, Matt Mantel, Matt Hobbs and Jeff Jamieson. Next home game is on Satur- day, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. Come on out and get a piece of the action! Sports Land 985-2174 Trophies Engraving .
