The theme is 'Plan Now for the Best of Your Life." The government is using posters, brochures and a province-wide media campaign to turn public attention toward the importance of planning. The Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Recreation has developed a comprehensive retirement-planning model 'suitable for use by "municipal recreation departments, com- munity groups, businesses, in- dustries and continuing education students. The working manual for the model is called Retirement Planning for Small Communities. The Ministry has also provided training to retirement-planning counsellors in communities and in industry. It has developed workshops and resource materials to improve the quality of retirement years. Ministry-developed publica- tions such as Options: A Hand- book of Retirement Information and Exercises and It's Up to You have proven themselves popular aids to retirement planning. "We consider the age of 40 an ideal time to begin retirement planning," said Ontario Minister of tourism and Recreation Hugh P. O'Neil. "Planning is helpful at any age, but an early start pro- duces better results." As well as promoting the con- cept of retirement planning, the public campaign will highlight the fact that the province is equip to provide support to groups and individuals who take the message to heart. The Ministry of Tourism and Recreation views retirement- planning assistance as part of its responsibility to ensure Ontarians of all ages have access to recrea- tional opportunities appropriate to their needs, interests and abilities, prior to and after retirement. "Retirement planning results in greater independence, autonomy and satisfaction for the older adult," Mr. O'Neil said. "That's an important message we want to get out.
