In front of a small crowd at the Scugog Arena, the MoJacks seemed to be a step or two behind the Ajax squad most of the game, although the contest was close for 40 minutes. Ajax jumped into a 3-0 lead by the mid-point of the second period before Len Giacalone clicked on a power play at 10:34 to cut the margin to 3-1. But less than a minute later the Axemen were on top again by three goals. The MoJacks attempted to make a game of it with a flurry late in the second period that re- sulted in two quick goals. The first came off a power play as newcomer Derek Ellis slapped home a loose puck with Giacalone and Troy Foster getting the assists. And 39 seconds later, it was Foster who converted a nifty two on one break with Ellis by whip- ping a shot to the low comer. But a big scramble in front of MoJack netminder Jeff Lynch gave Ajax another goal in the sec- ond and the Axemen took a 5-3 lead into the dressing room after 40 minutes. The third period was all Ajax as they fired 15 shots at Lynch, scored once at the 17 minute mark to make it 6-3 and added a final marker late in the game after Lynch was pulled in a desperate bid by the MoJacks to get on the board The MoJacks were out-shot in the game 37-24, and that was a pretty fair indication of the margin of play enjoyed by the visitors. However, the MoJacks did have several good scoring chances, especially in the second period, but were not able to cash in when a goal or two would have put them right back in the match. For Ajax, Jason Rennick had a pair of goals On Tuesday, December 6, the MolJacks turned in a fine perfor- mance at the Bowmanville Arena as they skated the Eagles to a 3-3 deadlock. And at 10:41 of the third, it was Edmondson who gave the A good outing for arm wrestlers Arm wrestlers from the Port Perry area had a fine day at a com- petitions December 10 at the Sim- coe Tavern in Oshawa. About 50 competitors took part in this one with Rick Erwin of the PP Arm Wrestling Club taking first in the 175-200 Ib. class and first in the 201 plus cat- egory. In fact, Erwin was not de- feated in this match all day. Pat Mastrangelo and Dan Wells placed 1-2 in the 175 class behind Erwin, and Mastrangelo had a first in the 151-175 Ib. class. Rick Klock from Port Perry took first in the under 150 Ib. class and Terry Barton, wrestling in a higher weight category fin- ished third. Mike Haigh worked as the Emcee for this competition. On December 3, in a tourna- ment in Barrie for cash prizes that attracted clost to 100 top wres- tlers, Terry Barton fought his way into a very tough final match with rival Eric Smyth in the fly- weight. This is one category above Terry's usual Bantam cate- gory. Smyth prevailed in a very tough final, but second spot wasn't a bad effort for Barton and he pocketed $100 prize money. Garth Carlson took a third ($50) in the middleweight. Pat Mastrangelo, Dan Wells and Mike Haigh all finished just out of the money in the light- weight category. Auctioneers take a loss In their fourth match against Bowmanville so far this season, the Pearce Auctioneers suffered an 8-2 defeat when they hosted the Toros at Port Perry Arena on Dec. 9. The Toros had a 2-0 lead after the first period and scored another goal in the second period before Port's Daryl McEnaney scored in the final minute of the second period assisted by Mike Morden. The Toros scored again in the third period and then Mike Heasman made a rush the length of the rink, passed the puck to Danny Robinson who fired the puck only to have the Bowman- ville goalie make the save, but Mike was there for the rebound and scored his first goal of the season. Danny Robinson and Joey Vanderleeuw each picked up an assist on that goal. Bowmanville then scored 4 quick goals in the last 4 minutes of the third period, final score 8-2. The Auctioneers host Lindsay at 7:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16 at Port Perry Arena. They travel to Scarborough at 5:00 p.m. Satur- day, Dec. 17 for an exhibition game against Pickering. team a 3-1 lead with help from Steve Connors and newcomer Der- ek Ellis playing his first game in a MoJack uniform. But the Eagles battled back with a power play goal at 14:32 by George Pithie, and with just 26 seconds to play in the game, it was Pithie who notched the equa- lizer. This was the second draw in as many outing for the MoJacks in Bowmanville, as the previous encounter wound up at deuces. Jeff Lynch had a solid game in nets for the team, facing 31 shots, while the MoJacks fired 27 at Dar- rin Bunker of the Eagles.. The MoJacks had plenty of great scoring chances in this game, and were it not for some er- ratic shooting, would have come home with the two points. While the team is playing very well defensively, goal scor- ing continues to be a problem. However, the scoring chances are coming and it's just a matter of time before the puck starts going in the net a little more often. MolJacks took 14 minor pen- alties, to nine for the Eagles. Four of the MoJack minors were for USC, usually called when a player questions the maternal ancestry of the guy in the striped sweater. The Eagles took one for USC. This was the first game for forward Derek Ellis and defense- man Chris Arsenault, who arrived in Port Perry via the Oshawa Jr. B Legionaires. The coaching staff and man- agement are confident these guys will | have a positive impact on the Mand for forward Troy Foster, who joined the MoJacks three weeks ago, it was his first game against his former Eagle team- mates. Foster scored a ton of goals for the Eagles the last couple of years. He's played well so far for the MoJacks, and once he gets his a 2 nti o i sights adjusted, he should start putting the puck in the cage. NOTEPAD: The MoJacks are idle until this coming Sunday (Decem- ber 18) when they host the Lake- field Chiefs for the first meeting of the season. This will also be the annual family Christmas Night with lots of special draws, candy for the kids and a visit from Santa Claus. Game time is 7:30 PM. With 19 points to date, the MolJacks are in the middle of the xemen hand MoJacks a 7-3 loss pack in the Central League stand- pe but with the season not yet at the half-way point, they are still within striking distance of the the top three teams. A win over Lakefield on Sunday would be a giant step in that direction. Even with the 7-3 loss to Ajax on Sunday, the team has been playing pretty good hockey defensively of late. But it's a dif- ferent story at the other end of the ice as scoring goals continues to be a problem. The Axemen were full marks for the two points in this one. Last Tuesday night, the MoJacks turned In a much better per- formance in Bowmanville as they skated the Eagles to a 3-3 draw.
