We will be giving a play called "The Toy Who Didn't Know About Christmas.' The opening scene is set in a toyshop, where all the toys come to life after the toy maker leaves. After talking for awhile, they discover that a new toy in the shop does not know the real mean- ing of Christmas. The scene shifts to Bethleham, almost 2000 years ago, and the Christmas story is re-created. Refreshments will be served after the program, and everyone is certainly invited! Friday, December 16, is our last day of school before the Christmas holidays. It will be a special day, beginning with a school chapel, where we will sing the Christmas Carols and have a Christmas story. In the afternoon we'll be going to the Baptist Church to use their gym for special Christmas games and gym activities. Finally, we'll return to school for our classroom Christmas parties. School will resume on Tuesday, January 3. We hope everyone will have a blessed holiday! We want to thank the Baptist Church for allowing us to use their gym on a weekly basis. The children really enjoy having gym, and it certainly is an important part of their physical development. Now that soccer season is over, we have started hockey in- tramurals. Our students have been divided into four teams - the Scorpions captained by Tony Sytsma and Kim Guenther; the Dolphins captained by Richard Kamminga and Vikki Seymour; the Rhinos captained by Jeremy Stevens and Melissa Burghgraef; and the Orangutans captained by Tanya Guenther and Rosemary Michel. These teams will play each other several times until the playoffs, when the two teams with the best records will play each other for the championship. Mrs. Rance, our French teacher, has been busy teaching Christmas vocabulary to our students, besides keeping up with the regular French program. Jacqueline McDermott and Edith Kamminga have been help- ing out with our music program. Jacqueline will be teaching our older students some guitar play- ing fundamentals in the new year. Thanks to these two mothers for volunteering their special talents to help us enrich our music instruction! Finally, we're happy to report that our Christmas Bazaar was an enormous success! Over $5,000 was raised for our Christian School. Thanks to our fundraising committee, and to the entire com- munity for supporting us so very generously! On behalf of the residents and staff we would like to express our sincere sympa- thy to the family and friends of the following residents. Arthur Brock passed away quiet- ly on November 30th. Mr. Brock was well known in the communi- ty due to operating Brock's De- partment Store for more than 30 ears. ¥ Also Phylis Lambert slipped away on December 5th. Miss Lambert has been with us for 11 years and will certainly be missed by many. Lastly we have Dorothy Beare, who passed away December 8th. Many of the nursing staff will miss her lovely sweet nature. Some of the upcoming events before Christmas are sending tele- grams (16), monthly birthday par- ty (19), carollers (19, residents' Christmas party (22) and sippin' and singin' (23).
