Warmest greetings to the editor and staff of the Port Perry Star, to the readers of this column and to those who contribute news items - both organizations and social items to the Blackstock col- umn - I hope that your Christmas was merry and that your New Year be happy. A warm welcome home is ex- tended to the many university and college students who are return- ing home for the Christmas vaca- tion - may you enjoy the rest from your studies as well as the fellowship with your Cartwright friends to say nothing of the good that already your new calendars should be marked but if you have any interest in the Blackstock Fair Board mark Thursday, January 19 as the annual meeting complete with pot luck supper. Guest speaker will be Gary Herrema. In the Floor Hockey there was only one game in which the Bruins defeated the Canadians 5-4 with scoring done by Todd Moore, Scott Barr and Mike Hepburn for the Bruins and by Adam Vivian and Jason Cliff for the Canadians. On Tuesday evening the regular euchre became a Christmas event. Draws were made for the afghan which was won by Laur- rena Bright, the Lap Throw by wards enjoyed dinner at the Organ Grinder. On Wednesday evening a capacity crowd at the C.C.P.S. gym enjoyed the annual Christmas Concert. Principal Roden Rutledge welcomed everyone and introduced the M.C. Jennifer Vokins. Beginning the programme was the Grade 7 band directed by Mr. J. Beirness after which the Junior Choir under the direction of S. McCullough and K. Morton sang several numbers. The Intermediate Drama Club directed by G. Marshall perform- ed Christmas preparations after which Mrs. Mclntosh's class presented Santa's Dilemma and some Square Dancing. Miss Mor- ton's Grade 6 Harmoniaers played three numbers after which the Grade 8 band under Mr. J. Beirness played several excellent PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, December 28, 1988 -- 11 school-supper hike in October as well as a '""Witch's Brew' hosted by the Pathfinders. In November, we held a candlelight ceremony, with the Pathfinders, at which 14 new Guides, 2 Leaders and 4 Pathfinders were enrolled. Parents were invited, refreshments served by the girls to earn their Hostess Badge. Last Monday night we braved the cold to go Christmas carolling, and then returned to the church for hot chocolate and cookies. Great fun for all!!! by Patty Waters The Cartwright Beavers, Cubs & Scouts have also been busy. They joined together on an im- pressive float for the Port Perry Santa Claus Parade. The Cubs have been to Camp Samac for a fun weekend. A special night out was a bus trip to Cullen's Gardens grandchildren for proud grandparents holidays. The next day of school, Friday, everyone enjoyed our traditional last day banquet and an afternoon of skating. Happy Holidays everyone!!! A group of Christmas Carollers were out Sunday evening. Sorry to report that Eldon Fee is in Oshawa Hospital having undergone hip surgery and Neil Werry is a patient in Port Perry Hospital awaiting surgery. We wish better health for both of these men.
