Scores, January 6 Lions 3 Lewis 2 This game showed the ability of both teams to play some enter- taining hockey. Lew d the ige in play in the firs period but 'neither team was able to score. Lewis broke the scoreless tie - when Robert Gracie poked the puck past the outstretched body of Ryan Duff, assisted by Justin Wootton. Again this period Lewis carried the play to the Lions but were only able to find the net once. With just under 3 minutes left in the period Matthew Phillips and Terry Jellicoe teamed up for the Lions with Terry getting the tying goal. The third period saw e Lions pick up their play and Lewis sag. Scott Prechitko gave the Lions the lead early in the period assisted by Matthew Phillips. Scott then fed Noah Smith with a great pass to up their lead to 3-1 with Sninutes to play. Lewis picked up their pace but the Lions hung onto the vic- tory. Justin Wootton closed out the scoring when he put a screen- ed shot into the net with only 3 seconds left. Whitby 4 Tripp 0 This game was very even in play as both teams tried to move up in the standings. Both teams had many scoring chances in this first period but were unable to beat David Kemp in net for Whit- by and Michael Wilson tending "goal for Tripp. Late in the frame Jason Brown fourid the open net picking up the rebound from Brandon Hammond. Jason again found the mark halfway through the second. period assisted by Ryan Mordon. Tripp had their ' chances in this period but when David didn't stop them the post aud Foner were tore fa help out, Ryan Larmer put tby up 3-0 with Mark Turnbull getting the helper Darren Kinnunen rounded out the scoring assisted by Steven Hiemstra. January 7 . Lions 3 Tripp 3 This game featured top goalten- ding from Lions Jamie Trick and ~ Tripps Mike Wilson as both teams - held nothing back and treated the large gathering of fans to an ex- citing match. The first period was fast skating and quick shooting as both teams tried to get the early lead. The two goaltenders had to be on top of their game to keep the period scoreless. The Lions open- ed the scoring 2 minutes into the second when Eric Vetter pounc- ing on a rebound with Terry Jellicoe and Ryan Duff assisting. Tripp got that back 3 minutes later when Matt Phoenix set up Steve Cochrane who jammed the puck into the net. Terry Jellicoe gave the Lions the lead once again - with the help of Philip Donnelly and Scott Prechitko. Tripp kept coming and with 2 seconds left Jason Brain found the twine assisted by Matt Phoenix and. Michael Leeming. The third period was no different from the first two and kept the fans highly entertained and on the edge of their seats. The Lions got a break with Tripp trying to take advan- tage of a powerplay Terry Jellicoe and Matthew Phillips breaking out and Matt scoring with 5 minutes to go. With 10 seconds left and an extra attacker on the ice Tripp forced a faceoff deep in the Lions end. Tripp won the faceoff and after a mad scramble around the net Jason Brain somehow managed to stuff the puck under Jamie Trick, assisted by Johnathan McCourt and Steve Cochrane. Lewis 6 Scugog 1 Lewis came out with all gu blazing and upset Scugdg. Lewis scored 3 goals in the first 5 minutes and never looked back as they kept Scugog from playing - their game. Jason Vader got Lewis rolling converting a pass from Matt Baxter. At the drop of the puck Lewis was again swar- ming Scugog's net and Bobbie "Cracknell assisted by Robert Gracie and Justin Wootton put them up by two. Under 2 minutes later Lewis stuck again with Kris Wootton finding the net after be- ing set up by Bobbie Cracknell and Tony Waldriff. One of the few times Scugog was able to get to the puck without a Lewis player all over them Matt Bengel spotted Jon Jamieson in open ice who in turn passed to Stewart Bruce who beat Kyle McClymont for Scugog's only goal. This closed out the scoring for the period with Lewis up 3-1. The second period saw Lewis keep up the pressure only great goaltending by Ian Johnson kept Lewis from: only scoring 2 more in the period. Jason Vader got both goals giving him 3 for the day, Jeremy Stevens and Scott Swain drew assists on the first goal and Jason potted his third unassisted. Justin Wootton rounded out the scoring late in the period with Robert Gracie and Scott Swain assisting. PeeWeeH/L Scala Bros. 2 Emiels 1 Mike Pashley kept Emiels in the game. Scala kept the pressure on for the last two periods after both teams were even during the first. Saturday, Jan. 7 "\ Big V 7 Emiels 2 \ Emiels took the lead on a goal from Steven Stiles unassisted. After some mighty fine hockey, Big V tied the score on a shot from Blair Perchitko, Blair Beveridge assisting. In the second period Emiels put the pressure on Big V, but couldn't put the puck by Greg Rankin who played super for Big V. Blair Beveridge scored two for Big V, Brad Lemieux setting up the first, the second unassisted. Billy Sandiford then scored again for Big V on a nice fake assisted by Ryan Ridgway and Russ Gas- coyne. Early in the third period Mike Labanovich unwound, skated through everyone, swung to the inside and fired a beauty. Derek Anderson and Steve Mac- Donald earning the assist. In the third period Big V turned on the power, Blair Beveridge scoring from Nicki 'Beare, Blair Per- chitko scoring his second, Blair Lemieux picking up his second assist. Late in the third Blair Beveridge scored his fourth unassisted to end the scoring. Larocque 2 Consumers Gas 2 This was another exciting game with lots of skating and excellent team play. Both Robert Ashton and Derek Carter shonein net as they stopped a number of sure goals, aided on occasion by the goal posts. Gerry Stevens pro- vided the only scoring of the first period scoring unassisted at the fourteen minute mark. With 3 minutes remaining in the second period - Scott Airey scored unassisted to put Frank ahead by 2 goals. Emmerson were finally able to put the puck past Derek Carter early in the third on an unassisted goal by Vince Cris- 'cione. The last two minutes prov- ed to be a real nail bitter as it looked like a tie when Adam Dan- tor scored from Peter Brock with just over a minute remaining but Chris Cooper scored the winning goal for Frank with only 53 seconds remaining. Frank Real Estate 6 Swamp Auto 3 Swamp playing wth only one spare man on the bench were able to stay even with Frank until the early third period but seemed to tire at this point. Mike Tripp up from the Pee Wee's filled in for an injured Steven Slade, Mike turn- ed out to be a very capable . replacement making some great saves. Eric Grosvener scored the only goal of the first period on a solo effort. Frank pulled ahead by 2 goals at the ten minute mark of the second period when Gerry Stevens scored on a passing play from Ross Stainton and Chris Cooper. Swamp were able to tie " the score before the end of the se- cond on goals from Carl Payne and Heath Hudson. Frank out scored Swamp by a 4 to 1 margin in third to gain the win. Scoring for Frank were Chris Cooper, Peter Simms, Cole Parry and Eric Grosvener. Heath Hudson provided the scoring for Swamp. Emmerson Insurance 4 Swamp Auto 2 Both teams came out flying, providing lots of end to end rushing with both goalies;Steven Slade and Robert Ashton, raking stops on breakaways. Swamp just seemed to be plagued with bad luck as the puck just wouldn't bounce their way on the numerous chances they had. Em- merson were ahead 4 to 0 before Swamp were able to find the mark. Scoring for Emmerson were: Cliff Lefort, Vince Cris- cione, Adam Dantor, Cliff Lefort and Doug Adams. Carl Payne finally found the mark for Swamp at the midway point of the third period and Heath Hudson closed out the scoring 3 minutes later. Emmerson Insurance 11 Frank Real Estate 1 Both teams came out flying, playing good, fast hockey.
