Hal Southgate Council agrees they must pay Blackstock bills Council has unanimously agreed to pay all outstanding bills in connection with the Blackstock Arena-Recreation Hall deficit. In agreeing to do so, they also ec their earlier concems about the $134,000 deficit and their dis- pleasure in the way it occarred. Councillor Yvonne Christie re- ported to council that all of the contractors had now submitted itemized bills, and they now have a responsibility to pay them. But she made no bones about her displeasure in the way the pro- ject was run. In presenting her report, Coun- cillor Christie said that it appears that the only contract that existed on the project was what was stip- ulated in the minutes of both the Rec-Centre and the Arena Board, A warming idea for Birdseye Park pool If there is enough money in the budget this year, swimmers in Birdseye Pool may not turn blue during swimming lessons. The Parks Committee has been investigating the cost and feasabil- ity of installing a Solar Heating Unit at Birdseye Pool to help ex- tend the swimming season, and make it more comfortable for those using the pool. Councillors Allan Goreski and Marilyn Pearce met with Enersol - Products Inc., and after examing the pool and buildings, the repre- sentative recommended that a solar heat unit mounted on top of the Library roof could raise the pool temperature to 80-85°F during stating amounts for various items. "We can not get anything more from this group (the committee). They were appointed by council to serve on the committee and we (Council) now have a legal re- Sponsintiiy to pay the bills", she sai Councillor Christie went on to say that she felt the day of the "handshake" in this community were gone. "We just can't trust the judgement of our good volun- teers anymore", she said. Other councillors agreed saying no future or any existing commit- tee will be allowed to operate on an "in-trust" basis. "It really is unfortunate that it has come to this" Councillor Christie concluded. mid June. The cost of a solar heating unit for Birdseye Pool would be ap- proximately $7,000.00. The Parks committee also met with the Parks Manager for the city of Oshawa for a tour of new playgrounds, and a discussion about designs and possible con- cerns. Plans are to install new play- ground equipment in Palmer Park this summer. i Recommendations to council will be made later and then referred to be discussed during budget time. nixon| FUEL OIL HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING | | SALES & SERVICE EEE Sipco © Nixon 313 ALBERT ST.
