In fact we are having lots of fun so far this month. Monday January 9, was a game day with many residents trying their skills out with darts and ring toss. Over the next couple of days we hosted our first annual Winter Carnival. Tuesday was spent drawing winter murals that decorated many walls in the dining room. A church service was provided in the evening by the Port Perry Baptist Faith. Wednesday January 11, was our official Winter Carnival ceremonies. A great many of the residents participated in this fun event. Due to the lack of snow some events had to be cancelled. The following are winners of the many games that were spon- sored. Hold the most snow: D. Spencley/B. Terrett; Break: H. Jewell/B. Gray/S. Ayers; Snow Dive: D. Archer/D. Spencley/H. Sanderson; Best Winter Dressed: C. Hubbard/D. Archer; Dart Throw: D. Spencley; Ski Race: H. Sander- son/M. Edmonds/V. Crosier; Best Participation: K. Dukelow; Winter Spelling Bee: A. Troop; Winter Quiz: L. Blaikie. All these events were throughout the day on January 11 & 12. To end the events we crown- ed two special winners. They were Mr. Harry Sanderson (Chil- ly Willy) and Mrs. Elizabeth Slute (Snow Queen). To end our festivities we had a _ Chill's & Thrill's Party on Thurs- day night. We all sipped away on hot Irish coffee and munched on donuts while watching several movies that sent chills down your spine. Overall our first Winter Carnival was a great success and we will be looking forward to our 2nd next year. Friday the 13th was fairly quiet with many residents participating in a bingo game. Also there was a session of crafts for the Inactive residents. An enjoyable bowling match was held on Monday Jan. 16 with Becky Gray being the top scorer with 112 pts. Tuesday there were several ladies busy baking mincemeat tarts that were served to all the Balloon - residents at supper that night. Others joined in for a sing-song in the dining room. In the evening the Hope Christian Reform Church provided a nice service. The following day was the mon- thly residents council meeting. Many different ideas were presented on how to spend some of the fundraising money. Thursday (19) afternoon was a busy one with everyone joining in to make flower arrangements for the dining room tables. After sup- per hour the Oddfellows organiza- tion hosted our monthly birthday party. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the sing-song and birth- day cake. The January birthday people were very pleased with their gift. A special thank you to this fine group. Ending this week on Fri- day January 20, we had a video presentation on Colours and then the ladies enjoyed a relaxing facial. The men were also kept busy with a men's dart game. Birthday wishes are extended to our resident friends Mr. Lionel Blaikie (Jan. 30) and Mr. Bill Moroz (Feb.1). Staff members celebrating bir- thdays are Liese Phillips, Helen Vine, Sandra Arscott and Karyn Gimblett. Many happy returns to these great gals. On behalf of the residents and staff we would like to express our sympathy to the families and friends of Mr. Frank Troop and Mr. William Stearman. Mr. Troop passed away on Jan. 7th and leaves to mourn his wife Annie. Mr. Stearman passed away on Jan. 16th and leaves behind his wife Jenny. Both these ladies liv- ed with their husbands while in the nursing home and will certain- ly miss having them at their side. Upcoming events are Qut-for- Lunch (Jan. 24), Supper Club (26), Beat the Blah's Party (31), Decorating (Feb. 2), Hit the Heart Darts (6) and Sweetheart Quiz (7).
