The top two teams play a best of five series. After five games Port Perry has five points, Cobourg has give points and Stouffville has no points. Game 1 was played in Port Perry against Cobourg on Friday January 20th, ending in a 2-2 tie. Rick Hutchinson was in net for this game. This game started out good, and then got better, with the Legionaires having some fine chances. Cobourg scored the first goal with 20 seconds left in the first period, to open the scoring. Port Perry came back five minutes later, when Dave Pashley passed to Jason Coutoulakis, parked in the middle of the hash marks, who one-timed the shot into the net. Four minutes later the Legionaires went into the lead, when Simon Traynor stick- handled the puck in, passed to Jeff Andrews for the goal. Assist to Dave Pashley. Four minutes later Cobourg scored on a power play to tie the score. The score was 2-2 after two periods, and re- mained that way to the end of the . game, despite good efforts from both teams to score that elusive winner. Game 2 was played Monday January 23rd at Stouffville, with Port Perry + 7-2. Jason Kane was in goal for this game. After a slow start the Legionaires started to roll, scoring one goal in the first period, three in the se- cond and three in the third. Port Perry's first goal was a short-handed effort, when Duane Empringham got the puck at the blue line, skated in and shot, and then Dave Pashley poked in the rebound. Stouffville scored next on a power play, answered by a solo goal from Duane. Stouffville scored again to tie it at 2-2, but then Port scored five more times to silence Stouffville. Gavin, Dave Bourgeois, Jeff Andrews, Dave Pashley and Jason Coutoulakis all scored. Assisted for these five goals went to Simon with three, two each to Adam Johnston and Joe Broad- worth, singles to Duane, Lindsay Parry and Jeff Card. Game 3 saw Stouffville at Port Perry on Friday, January 27th, with a 4-0 victory for Port Perry. Rick Hutchinson was the goal tender for this game. The first goal, 30 seconds into the game, saw three Stouffville players laying on the ice around their net, Duane picked the puck out of this mess, passed, and Jeff Andrews put it in the net. Dave Pashley also got an assist. The next goal was scored by Jason Coutoulakis, who was there to get the rebound from a Dave Pashley shot that hit the post, also assisting was Jeff Andrews. The third goal was scored from a goal mouth scramble, goal by Dave Bourgeois, assists by Duane and oe. The final goal was set up nice- ly by Dave Bourgeois, who slid the puck slowly to the net, then Duane pounced on it and ham- mered it home. Game 4 was played Sunday, January 29th in Cobourg, with Port Perry coming away as losers in a 4-2 game. Jason was in net for the first two periods, Rick the final one. Cobourg came out skating fast and hitting hard for this game, but Port came right back, after they had adjusted to the smaller ice surface. The first goal went to Port Perry, when Duane stole the puck, while short-handed, and scored. Cobourg scored one minute later, to end the first period tied at 1-1. Cobourg scored twice in the se- cond period to see the score 3-1 after two. Port Perry scored next on a goal by Jeff Andrews, assisted by Jason and Gavin. This was not enough, as Cobourg came right back and scored again one minute later. Despitegome good chances the Legionaires were unable tp get any breaks, especially from a certain ref-ess. The next game will be at Port Perry on Friday, February 3rd at 9:00 p.m. against Cobourg. Why not come out and support these boys? Results from the Atom H.L.
