PPHS girls earn silver Junior Curling is booming in Durham Region! Eight girls teams from the Durham i 0ols met on Friday Feb. 3rd for their LOSSA Champion- ships at the Port Perry Curling Club. P.P.H.S. had two teams entered. The team of Tania Fielding, Carrie Fielding, Wendy Brown and Leanne Philip had a strong first game but lost in an extra end to O'Neill to be eliminated from the medal round. The second Port Team of Jill Parry, Tracey Mollon, Alison Cowdy and Megan Thompson played through their Split for Novice A The "Pearce Auctions' travell- ed to Cobourg of Friday Feb. 10 for game 3 of their playoff series and came away with a 4-3 win. The first od saw a 2-0 lead by Port with Kent Johnston scor- ing and Daryl McEnaney and Mike Morden picking up assists and then Mike Morden scored assisted by Adam Jones. The second period saw Cobourg score 1 goal and then Danny Robinson scored Port's third goal assisted by Kent Johnston. The third period saw Cobourg score 2 goals and then Daryl McEnaney scored Port's fourth goal unassisted. On Saturday, Feb. 11, Port hosted Cobourg for the fourth game of the series but suffered a 2-0 loss. The series now stands at: Cobourg - 2 wins, and Port - 1 win and 1 tie game. Games goes Fri- day Feb. 17 in Cobourg, at 7 p.m. first two rounds, handily, but suc- cumbed to the O'Neill girls, win- ning the LOSSA Silver Medal. They advance to DYSSA to be held in Newmarket on Feb. 22. Twelve boys teams entered the LOSSA Boys Competition necessitating a sudden death elimination game on Thursday Feb. 9. Matched against their old Rivals O'Neill, Port's boys team of Jason Guindon, held their own against this strong team only to lose by one rock in the eighth end. This unfortunately eliminated them from further competition on Fri. Feb. 10. After an exciting day, last years Champions, Dunbarton High School, matched up against O'Neill to battle for silver and gold. Both teams advance to DYSSA on Feb. 22, Dunbarton as first place finishers; O'Neill as second. Neit Friday Feb. 17th, Port will host a new LOSSA event, mixed. Although at this stage there is no - DYSSA competition for this event, it is likely that interest will warrent its addition next year.
