This loss put the boys behind the eightball as they now had to win both of their remaining playoff games to advance to the next round of playoffs. On Saturday night at home the boys played Stouffville and show- ed fire in their eyes as they were determined not to let their playoff season end on this night. The boys built up a quick 3-0 lead and then coasted to a 6-2 victory. Steve Desautels led the way with 2 goals while Brent Harper, Chad Kearns, Chad Garvock and Scott Wylie all added single. Also of note is the play of Matt Hobbs lately. His tenacious checking and free wheeling skating have been inspirational to everyone. On Saturday, the team travell- ed to Ennismore to try their hand "at tournament play. This was to be their most consistant effort so far this year. Both offensive and defensive units clicked all day long. Their first game against Graf- ton turned into a one-sided affair with Pineridge winning easily 7-1. The game was close through the first period but then Port unleash- ed their awesome attack and simply blew the competition away. The second game against the Canadian Tire sponsored team from Bancroft proved to be a re-run of the opener. Once again the competition stayed close for one period and then our guys got untracked and almost filled the net. Final score 7-1 once again. Pineridge then advanced to the final for the championship. Once again they played a team from Bancroft, this time sponsored by Home Hardware. Port Perry opened the scoring early and scored four times before Bancroft responded in the third. They exchanged goals to make it 5-2 before the roof fell in on Bancroft when Pineridge Pep- pered their net, scoring 4 more times before the final buzzer sounded. Final score 9-2. Accolades to Greg Thompson who was selected M.V.P. in the championship game and to Dar- ryl Holtby who made the slickest save on a breakaway as you would ever wish to see. Cobourg drew first blood mid- way through the second period with two quick goals and were to take this lead into the third. The next frame was to turn somewhat "chippy" with numerous penalties called on both teams. Fans on both sides of the rink were very vocal in their support. The teams exchanged goals late in the game to give Cobourg the game 3-1 and the series. Matt Hobbs scored Port's only goal unassisted. Pineridge matched Cobourg step for step but were frustrated by a hot goaltender in the opposition end. Emmerson came back to tie the score with less than a minute re- maining in the second period when Adam Dantor scored oi a pass from behind the net. Herb Hatch opened the scoring in the third on a solo effort break- ing in on the wing and firing home a shot from the face-off circle. Swamp opened up a two goal lead on the Lee Philips goal. Adam Dantor picked a nice lead pass from Vince Criscione to break in alone and score to bring Emmer- son within one goal of Swamp. Lee Phillips netted the in- surance goal when he broke in alone and let a soft shot go that fooled the Emmerson goalie. Carl Payne broke in alone and scored to close out the scoring.
