Tuesday Night Mens February 7, 1989 Team Standings: Hi Rollers 16, Bowling Thunder! 12, Our Gang Malmont Atoms meet Cobourg Wednesday night the Malmont Farms Atom No. 1 team travell- ed to Stouffville to continue with their round robin playoff series. This game was very important to Port because a win would put Stouffville out and assure a posi- tion for Port in the next playoff round. With this in mind Port flew out onto the ice just raring to go! Stouffville opened up the scor- ing with only 46 seconds remain- ing in the 1st period. The second period saw a lot of end to end hockey as both goaltenders saw a lot of action around the nets. Port was robbed several times by the goal post and Stouffville was stop- ped repeatedly by the outstanding play in net by Scot Pretchitko. Nice work Scot! It wasn't until the early minutes of the 3rd period that Matt Mor- ris made a great pass to Jay Tred- way who in turn dropped it over to Kenton LeFort who found the empty corner to tie the score at 1-1. Nice passing play boys! Port took the lead midway through the period on another super passing play as Kenton LeFort worked together with Jeremy Geer who shot a well executed pass to Jay Tredway who beat the Stouffville netminder! Thirty seconds later Sandy Mark stole the puck from the Stouffville defence and blasted in Port's reassurance goal! The game ended 3-1. Great game team! To end the round robin series Port travelled to Cobourg for a match-up with the Cougars. Port used to have a bit of trouble with this team but that was about to change as the Green Machine beat them at their own game. * Port applied pressure and con- stantly frustrated their opposi- tion. Jay Tredway had the Cobourg goalie's number as he did all the damage getting all 4 goals! Way to go Jay! Port opened the scoring mid- way through the 1st period as Jay & Kenton LeFort teamed up to assault the Cobourg net. Cobourg tied the score but then as the 2nd period began Jay netted goal No. 2 as goalie Ian Shrigley started the play in our end by passing to defenceman Ian McCready who made a super pass to Jay who had no hesitation blasting it home. Once again Cobourg tied the score but in the 3rd period Kirk Swain raced up the boards with Kenton LeFort who fed the puck to Jay * who in turn put the puck between the pipes to once again take the lead 3-2. Cobourg tied the score with 1:29 - remaining but Jay Tredway at the 52 second mark stole the puck, raced past the defencemen and made no mistakes beating the goalie and giving Port the game 4-3. Matt Morris played a great game tonight scoring a whistled down goal (I think it went in) combining some great rushes along with solid defensive plays! Playoffs continue this week as Port & Cobourg square-off in a 3 out of 5 series. Keep up the great work team. Real challenge If you're 17 and love the great outdoors -- or just want a chance to experience it - it's time to app- ly to become a Junior Ranger with the Ministry of Natural Resources. The junior ranger program -- which runs for eight weeks begin- ning in July - provides oppor- tunities for teenagers, both male and female, to learn first-hand about fish, wildlife, parks, water, land and forest management. Ac- tivities range from planting trees to creating portages. During the summer junior rangers will learn about everything from canoeing to first aid, The JRs earn a basic wage of $16 a day, six days a week, plus free room and board and a subsidy for travel costs. Thirty-five camps (15 female and 20 male) will be operated across the province this summer. As well, one male camp is bil- ingual which means that the guest speakers, lectures and handouts use both official languages. Pee Wee House League Scala 4 Emiels 0 As the Pee Wee House League winds down we are seeing some excellent hockey. In this contest there was some real excitement from start to finish, both teams giving it their all. Scala opened the scoring in the first period on a perfect goal by Paul Zibert assisted by Darryl Slack and Kevin Ellis. In the second period Scala rallied for three goals, the first scored by Mike Leach, assisted by Brett Lawson and Sean Gawley. The second was fired by Stephen Parish assisted by Darryl Slack and Paul Zivert. The third goal of the period was popped in by Jason Kane assisted by Kevin Ellis and Sean Gawley. This ended the scoring but there was some excellent play making that was stopped cold by Mike Pashley in net for Emiels and James Paterson between the pipes for Scala. Consumers Gas 1 Larocque Electric 0 This was just a typical game you would see when playoffs start, so folks, I'm sure we are in for some mighty fine hockey. There were some tense moments during this game for the players as well as the fans, but the only goal scored was by Con- sumer's, Darrin Hope, unassisted. Mike Tripp in goal for Con- sumers and Kyle Simms for Larocque, gave you your money's worth during this match-up as they displayed talent and moves you will probably never see anywhere else as they are unique only to the Port Perry Pee Wee House League. Keep up the ex- - cellent work. Consumers Gas 2 Emiels 0 This game was as good a game as you will ever see in Pee Wee hockey. Both teams gave it their best shot, and it was a thriller from the first drop of the puck to the final buzzer. The 2 M's ih goal, Mike Tripp for Consumers and Mike Pashley for Emiels did a stand up job in net to keep this game within reach for either side at any time during the contest. Consumer's scored two quick goals in the second period when Emiels appeared to stop back checking. Dale Bradbury scored the first from Graham Holt and Jerry Blackburn. Troy Hope scored the second from team mate and brother Darrin Hope and right winger Andrew Pereman. If anyone wants to come and see some excellent hockey come and witness the Pee Wee House League, as there is fun and thrills enough for everyone. Scala 7 Big V 1 They say history repeats itself and this game was no exception After a lengthy illness John Ar- thur (Jack) Gray passed away at the Port Perry Community Memorial Hospital on December 11, 1988. During his retirement years Jack spent some of his time work- ing with Jean & Bruce Holtby, and Kahn Bros. doing what he en- joyed most of all, caring and assisting animals back to good health. During his limited spare as Mike Leach started Scala off in the right direction on a goal from Jason Kane and Sean Gawley. At the end of the first Scala was 1, Big V, 0. In the second Scala answered for 2 more Stephen Parish scoring from Darryl Slack and Brett Lawson, and Kevin Ellis from Darryl Slack and Steven Gilbert. * During the third Scala pulled away with three quick ones. Brett Lawson from Darryl Slack and Kevin Ellis, Jason Kane with two, Sean Gawley and Mike Leach assisting on the first, Chris Bryant and James Paterson the other. Big V came back and scored on a goal unassisted by Sean Ball. Late in the third Scala scored again with Jason Kane, his hat trick for the day, assisted by Sean Gawley and Mike Leach.
