PORT PERRY STAR -- Legionaires win tournament in Goderich The Port Perry Legionaires Pee Wee hockey team finished off their season by going to Goderich for the "Young Canada Week" tournament and coming away as "A" champions, This was a two day round robin tournament, with the two top teams playing for the champion- ship. Port Perey. on all four gains, three of t being shut- outs, This was a new experience for most of the boys, as were billeted out with Goderich families overnight. .- Game 1 was played Tuesday March 14th, at 3:10 p.m. against Barrie, a 2-0 victory for Port Perry. Jason Kane played in net and got the shut-out. This Barrie team was a very small team, that seemed to put the Legionaires off their regular game plan, as Port seemed very sluggish and slow to start. Too many penalties took up the time, and it was not until mid-way in the third period that Port Perry was able to score. Mike Williams got the goal, assisted by Sean McEnaney and Adam J ton. An empty net 1 with four seconds left in the game com- pleted the scoring. Sean scored, assisted by Adam. Game 2 was played at 7:50 pm. the same day against a team from South London, a 3-0 win. Rick Hut- chinson played in goal and got the shut-out, The Legionaires came out skating well in this game, but despite several chances, it was not until the third period that Port Perry got on the scoreboard, when Jason Coutoulakis scored, assisted by Duane Empringham. Jeff Andrews scored next on a solo rush, then Joe Broadworth scored after Gavin Cochrane had made a rush down ice to set it up. Game 3 was played Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. against a team from Preston. The score was 3-2 with Jason Kane in net. Game 4 was the Championship game, played at 9:00 p.m. that night against South London, who had qualified on their point percentage, goals for and against. The Legionaires won 3-0 this time, with Rick Hutchinson getting a se- cond shut-out against them. Port Perry came out skating well, scoring three minutes into i # uw Ww the game, when Sean scored from the blue line, assisted by Gavin and Lindsay Parry. Two more goals in the third period sealed the victory. Mike scored from Adam and Sean. Duane scored from Dave Pashley and Jason. Corey Bricknell played well in all games and was unlucky not to score a point. This was a great way for the Legionaires to end their season.
