Doug Bronson and Jim Beatty scored the other 2 goals with a single assist going to Bob Beveridge. The lone marker for Sportsland Nas Ray Zaparaniuk from Roger oase. Game two was a "wide" open and close checking game as Larocque electric edged out J&D Carpentry 2-1. Helping out were Bill Haynes, Ed Olsen, and Brian Samis all with 2 assists each and Doug Scott 1. Game four was similar to three with Norton's squeezing past Blanchard's 6-5. Leading the way for Norton's were Bob Tarbotton 2 goals, 1 assists, Fred Moffat 1 goal, 2 assists, Ken Davison, Dave Roth and Ron Jeffrey with loners. Assists to Bill Van Camp 2, Steve Calder 2, Dale Bronson and Doug Suppelsa 1 each. Fighting for Blanchard's were Ron Zaparaniuk 1 goal, 1 assist, John Kotarba 1 goal 1 assis, Dan Carty and Bruce Gracie with the other goals. Assisting were Mark Jobb with 3, Dan Horner and Al Bonner. Auctioneers tie Orono The Port Perry "Pearce Auc- tions" travelled to Orono on Fri. 17, March '89 for an exhibition game and came away sharing a 1-1 tie. Port scored early in the first period and maintained that 1-0 lead until the last 3 minutes of the third period. Conference on violence The Violence Prevention Coun- cil of Durham Region is sponsor- ing a conference, "Protecting Kids Together," on Child Sexual Abuse - Prevention and Treat- ment, to be held in Oshawa April 4, 5 and 6, 1989. The conference is part of Family Violence Preven- tion Week. (April 3 to 10, 1989 has been proclaimed Family Violence Prevention Week by the Regional Municipality of Durham.) Reports of sexual abuse of children in Durham Region have increased from less than 10, ten years age, to over 300 last year. Increased demands have hit the Children's Aid Society, the police, crown attorney, as well as criminal and family court judges. Demand for treatment from com- munity treatment agencies has shot up dramatically, as well. The conference will host profes- sionals from #05uss Con Io highlight current knowledge : the treatment and prevention of child sexual abuse. House League tournament on Saturday, Elmvale defeated Port Perry Tripp by a 7-3 Score. Best effort awards for the final went to Doug Smith of Eimvale and Jason Robinson of Trip P, who wore different sweaters be- cause of the "colour clash." Pineridge Atoms in Consolation On March 11 and 12 the Pineridge Sports Atoms travelled to the Cannington Tournament. In the first game the Pineridge team lost a close one to Little Britain 2-1. The lone Port Perry goal was scored by Kent Taylor assisted by Greg Thompson. The second game of the day against Cann- ington resulted in a 4-1 win for Port Perry. "The goal scorers were Greg Thompson, Darryl Moase, Jeff Jamieson and Kevin Gray. Assists to Greg Thompson, Kevin Gray and Matt Hobbs. On Sunday March 12 the boys returned to Canninton for the con- solation final against Baltimore, losing a tough game 5-3. Port's Goals were scored by Jeff Clarke, Kent Taylor, and Shaon Lewerentz. Assists to Greg Thompson and Kevin Gray. All 3 games were played hard and fast with an over abundance of penalties on both sides. Brandon Hammond made many fine saves as the low scores indicate. For- wards Ryan Williams, Darryl Wnase bp Matt Unhiss were especially tough in the corners. Good back checking by Brad Shanley and Todd Parry. The defence of Brad Morton, Matt Mantel and Jason Logan was v good. Special mention to Jeit Jamieson who played an excellent 3 games on defence while adding a goal from the blue line on a powerplay. On March 17 and 18, the Atoms travelled to Bowmanville for a spring break tournament. In the first game played on Friday Port lost a close one 4-2 to Thornhill. The boys out-played, out-hustled and did everything but outscore Thornhill. Port took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Matt Hobbs assisted by Jeff Clarke. Thornhill came back to score 3 straight goals. Matt Hobbs brought Port within one goal with the goalie pulled, assisted by Todd Parry. Thornhill then scored an emp- ty net goal to finish the game, The ' game had some line Juggling and Ryan Williams trying his hand at defence, good effort Ryan. Matt Hobbs played an excellent two way game with fine effort by for- wards Brad Shanley, Kent Taylor and Greg Thompson. a good effort by everyone, good passing and stick handling but not enough shots at the goal. On Saturday, the boys went to Darlington arena for a game against the Bowmanville Toros. This game was basically a 2 man show. Number 17 from Bowman- ville and Kent Taylor from Pineridge Atoms put on an awesome display of fire power scoring 3 times each in the first 2 Periqes. Kent Taylor completed hat trick scoring 2 goals unassisted with the 3rd being assisted by Todd Parry. The boys matched Bowman- eT ; ort or- wards-and defence, isting wmanville pulled pulled away scoring 2 unanswered goals for a Bowman- ville 5-3 victory. Many fine efforts by the four boys called upon in the third period could not keep up to the fast line changes employer by the Bowmanville team. The boys have had a good season and will wind up the year with a tournament in Buffalo U.S.A. April 1st weekend.
