30 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 4, 1989 Board okays pay hike The Durham Board of Educa- tion has reached an agreement with its elementary teachers which gives them a 4.85 per cent increase over one year. Trustees approved the agree- ment March 27. The teachers had previously ratified it by 76 per cent. The one year joint agreement with the Ontario Public School Teachers Federation and the Durham Women Teachers Association expires Aug. 31. Pay is retroactive to September, 1988. The settlement brings teachers' salaries to a minimum of $25,919 for a new graduate with minimum qualifications and $53,621 for a fully qualified teacher with 11 years experience. Teachers without university .degrees make between $19,704 up to a maximum of 38,204 for a non- degreed fully certified teacher with 10 years experience. (University degrees became a re- / quirement for teachers in the ear- ly '70s). Principals' salaries will range from $59,500 to $64,500. Allowances will range from $3,050 to $4,600 for "A' school vice-principals and from $1,885 to $1,950 for "B" school vice- principals and principal assistants.
