34 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 4, 1989 Blackstock figur Blackstock and Area News by Joyce Kelly Heartiest congratulations to Donovan Smith who received the award for the outstanding Young Farmer in the Central Region in the Canada Outstanding Young Farmer programme. This ex- cellent programme is sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Corn- merce across Canada for suc- cessful young farmers aged 18-39 years. Donovan was presented with his award at the Pickering Recreation Complex on Saturday evening. He will be competing in Calgary in October for the All- Canadian Award. Once again, congratulations to Donovan. The arena has been a very busy place the last week before ice goes out now. On Monday and Tuesday curling season wound up. Gerald Kelly, local carpenter once again sponsored the Kelly Mixed Bonspiel which was held on Monday and Tuesday evenings. After much fun and many very tight games the rink of Doug and Karen Kadowaki, Esther Kelly and Sheldon Robertson won top prize with Dale and Janet Van- Camp, Cindy Werry, Deb Van- Camp and Bill Showler. The Curl- ing Club Awards Banquet and Dance will be held this Saturday evening at Nestleton Hall. This dance is. open to anyone who wishes to enjoy a pleasant even- ing of dancing. On Sunday afternoon the Blackstock Figure Skating Club presented Blackstock Circus Time which was enjoyed by a large number of parents, relatives and friends. Leanne Goslin performed the duties of ringmaster very well. The performing bears were Alison Kadowaki, Amy Aldred, Meghan Kyte, Lindsey Cole, Sarah Stapley, Elisha James and Lea Haynes, followed by the monkeys who were Elyse Thomp- son, Kim Dingman, Jessica Siebenmorgen, Lyndsey Sweet- man and Laura Pottier. Guest skater Michelle Dempsey from Oshawa S.C. was followed by the jugglers, Sandra Nicholson, Lisa Bucking, Nicole Adams, Angela Drew and Lianne Campbell. Jackie Strong per- formed an excellent juggler solo. The fierce Lions were Chance Morison, Kyle Christopher Brunet, Kevin Moore, Matthew Campbell, Grant Arsenault and Kurt Campbell while the elephants were Emily Lamb, Amanda Drew and Bran- di McLaughlin - what dainty elephants! Sarah Wilcox, Nicole Welts and Rhonda Smith were the Fortune Tellers after which Erin Hassall performed an excellent Fortune Teller solo. Five little boys were delightful clowns - Geremy Cole, Bradley Kyte, Graham Ingram, Danny Bucking and Matthew Welts. The colourful trapeze artists were Lisa Parsons, Brianna Smith, Lindsey Ingram, Brooke McLaughlin, Gale Dingman and Carla McLaughlin. were Ashley McLean, Krystal Bartlett, Angela Sieben- morgen, Chanel Pascoe and Can- dace Cundy. Balloon vendors were Jocelyn Thompson, Lesslie Lamb, Alania Malcolm, Shanna Hassal and Monica Mason with Jennifer Parsons as the Balloon Vendor solo. The excellent programme con- cluded with a fine performance by guest skater Tara Black from the Oshawa Skating Club followed by the Finale. Pitchers, - Congratulations to Anna McLaughlin and the large number of parents and the skaters who presented such a fine performance. A St. John Ambulance First Aid Course was instructed by Ron Rowntree to a Joint Class of Rangers and Duke of Edinburgh members. Five members will be tested later. Those who were tested were successful - Jill Van- Camp, Esther Kelly, Julie Byers, Shirley Turner, Tammy Cail, Sherry Cail and Shelly Cail. Thanks to Ron Rowntree who donated his instruction to this group. Congratulations to those who were successful. Farm families will be happy to know that the Bethesda-Reach on Farm Day Care has received the go-ahead for 1989. This pro- gramme should be a real help for farm families as the busy spring season approaches. This pro- gramme is open to all residents of Scugog including Cartwright. For further information call Barb Evans at 852-5411. Marilyn Green, Joanne Connors and Gail Sanderson have return- ed home from a holiday in Montego Bay, Jamaica. They were joined by former classmate -'rracy Cochrane who is present- ly a student in Wyoming and on her winter break. Better health is wished for Ed- na Larmer who is in Port Perry Hospital after suffering a fall, Janet Weir suffered a serious finger injury at work last week and spent several days in Oshawa Hospital following surgery. Best wishes for a complete recovery. If you were missed in the recent e skaters in the Big Top Port P&rry Community Memorial Hospital Building Campaign please phone either Eileen McLaughlin 986-4420 or Aileen (Turn to page 35 This lion Is dragging its tall. 50 local youngsters performed before over 150 parents and friends at the first Blackstock Figure Skating Club "Circus Time" exhibition. The Club has just completed thelr first successful year and received sanctioning from the Canadian Figure Skating Assoclation. The kids and Coach Anne McLaughlin worked hard this sea- son and many talents were discovered and refined. Sunday they put It all together in a great show. No clowning around. This figure skating stuff Is serious business for these young lads. But with improvised tum- bling, they spent a large part of their perfomance down on the Ice.
