The two men, seen here with Scugog Museum curator Mary Lynne Williamson visited Port Perry for the first time last week to research history on the family. Jim and Gordon, who are first cousins and hail from Mon- tana, are direct descendents of the man whose name is asso- ciated with the early' settlement of this part of Ontario. They are great, great grandsons of Reuben Crandell, the first white settler in Reach Township in 1821, and who along with other members of his family became owners of sub- stantial tracts of land in Bore- lia, the old section of Port Perry prior to the turn of the century. "We are hoping our re- search here will connect with other research that has been done on the family tree in the States," said Gordon last week. This is their first visit to Port Perry, and both said they are enjoying greatly the hospi- tality. Museum curator Mary Lynne Williamson has been a great help in researching old files and documents, and Jim and Gordon were guests at a pot luck supper courtesy of the Mu- seum Board at a home on Cran- dell Street in Port Perry, named for their famous ancestor. And as well, local historian Paul Arculus escorted them on a walking tour of the old town.
