I a REN ay -- rc sme a FT tt RAC et eee if Werf £ f yal /R8:39 TRO 10 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 11, 1989 0ff The To by Rob Streich Well, I've gone and done it, | have made the move to an apartment in the booming megalopolis of Blackstock. This morning | woke up and ran to my window intent upon shouting "Go-ood Morr-ning Blackstock" in the now classic Rob- in William's style. Fortunately the storm window was in the way and the casement was locked, so no one suffered a fright from- seeing my mug and hearing my hoarse tones before breakfast. It really feels good to actually be living in this community - it sure beats commuting too many hours everyday from Oakville. | ask you, where else can you be woken by the sound of church bells sweetly chiming then the eastend of Blackstock? Where else can you hear birds chirping just outside your window (be they doves or chickens)? Where else can you step outside in the morning, take a deep breath and get a blast of fresh country air? That's right, as | walked out to my car, | realized for the first time that there was a farm just across the street from me. And the gentleman was up early, spreading a very natural fertilizer on his fields. Phew! by rt © g Ah, my new apartment, the joys of living by oneself: Not needing to get dressed to walk from the bedroom to the kitchen for breakfast (assuming the curtains are drawn). Sleeping peacefully until your alarm clock goes off. Most importantly, not needing to worry that a piece of food in the fridge might belong to someone else. One thing | will really enjoy is knowing that when the phone rings, it will be exclusively for me, not just another friend-of-a- socialite-roomate, for whom | must leave a message, again! | took a Quick cycle tour about Blackstock to burn off some calories (and frustrations) and see the sites. £4, Wow, it sure is purty! . The country lanes and the farm fields |: and the trees and wildlife made me feel that the sweat and back- strain of moving was all worthwhile. fo So when | went back inside, | could face up to the stack of boxes in the corner with new courage. With the television on for company, and a good meal in my stomach, it was a cinch to put the drawers into place and fill them - halfway there. It may still be a few weeks before all the prints and posters are up on the wall, or until my plants find a permanent resting place, butin time it will get done. It is simply great to be able to escape the hub-bub and hide away by yourself for a while. Won't it be nice to be able to invite friends to visit and not need to gia up my bed for them - with my handydandy fold-out couch, | have somewhere to put visitors. It may not be as good as a guest room, but at least | can close a door between us, not like previous abodes where bunking over meant | crawled into my sleeping bag on the floor under the desk - because that was the only space available. : The best thing, above all else, why it is great to have your own digs Is the pleasure you get when you don't have to answer to anyone at all about dirty dishes or leaving the toilet seat up! The romance has not yet warn off with my new apartment. _ | | think it might bloom into a beautiful , long-lasting love affair. Several injured incrashes Several ple had to be topassanother vehicle.
