PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 18, 1989 -- 9 Council gets a raise A three-year pay scale has been established for members of Township council. Council on Monday morn- ing endorsed a motion which will increase salaries paid to the mayor and councillors this year and in 1990 and 1991. Councillors will earn $10,600 this year, and will re- ceive an additional $1,000 the next two years. By the end of the termin 1991, a Scugogcoun- cillor will be earning $12,600 annually. The Mayor's position will pay $16,000in 1989, and will in- crease $1500 the next two years to a total of $19,000 by the end of the current three year termin 1991. The Mayor of Scugog and the rep on Regional council are also paid just over $17,000 an- nually by Durham Region. The motion Monday to in- crease the salaries was put for- ward by councillor Yvonne Christie and Al Goreski, and it was endorsed unanimously. The reasons for the in- crease are to keep up with anin- creasing work-load in a growing municipality and to bring the salaries in line with what simi- lar sized Townships are paying their elected officials. In 1988, Scugog Mayor re- ceived $12,500, while council DOOR OPENER members were paid $9,500. at Model 860 Deluxe. the local level. | )] J) STANLEY > : : Taxes up | hin ZS | 199 (From page 2) STEEL 3 year warranty.
