Waterfront maybe jammed on Festival Days The Port Perry waterfront could be a very crowded place the weekend of July 15-16. Not only is that the week- Police arrest 6 persons Aten week investigation by Durham Police and CN and CP rail security forces has led to the arrest of six persons in con- nection with the theft of copper wire along rail lines between Port Hope and Oshawa. The investigation also in- cluded OPP detachments in Belle River and Essex, Ontario. On April 13, police arrested and charged four men and two youthful offenders in connec- tion with the theft of the copper wire valued at about $100,000. Charged with theft over $1,000, possession of stolen property and conspiracy to com- mit theft are Louis H. Marc- hand, 63, of Essex, Ont., Donald Walter Marchand, 56, of Essex; Robert L. Marchand, 20, of Borthwell, Ont., and Michael Stanley Fox, 21, of Woodslee, Ont. oo The two youthful offenders also charged cannot be named publicly. The arrested men were re- turned to Oshawa by Police to face a bail hearing in Provincial Court. Members of Township council were flabbergasted Monday afternoon when admin- istrator Earl Cuddie informed them he had read in a sporting magazine that the Pro Bass Derby has been scheduled for Port Perry the same weekend as Festival Days. How will the fishermen get their bass boats in the water, how will they use the docks in front of the Latcham Centre for weigh-ins with all the Festival Days activities going on, sever- al councillors asked. The Bass Derby usually at- tracts in excess of 100 base boats and fishermen angling for big dollars in the catch and re- lease format. - The issue was left in the hands of the administrator to find out if the Derby can be changed or moved to another lo- cation away from the Port Perry waterfront. Suffers injury cutting branch A Greenbank man suffered serious injuries April 8 when he fell while cutting branches from a tree. Ken Toms was working at his sister's home in Greenbank and fell about 20 from a ladder after alarge branch struck him.
