April 22 at the Church of the Ascension Hall. Lloyd Greenough welcomed everyone and said he was pleas- ed to see such a good turn out. Lloyd introduced the head table Doug Butt - representative from the Legion, Al Freeman - the Pro- vincial Field Executive, Mayor Howard Hall, Butch McCelland - Pine Ridge District president, Ed Hobbs - representative of The Church of The Ascension, Greg Smith - past District Commi- sioner, and the Rev. Charles Bull. Everyone rose to sing O'Canada. Ed Hobbs welcomed the group on behalf of The Church of The Ascension. Ed said how happy the Church was to have the boys meeting there. - Mayor Howard Hall talked about the starting of 1st Port Perry. The scouts originated at The Church of The Ascension years ago, later they moved to the Port Perry United Church because they needed more space. and then the Scout Hall was built on Lilla St.. Sept. 1987, 1st Port Perry returned to seek sponsorship and a new home at The Church of The Ascension. Sept. 1988, the newly formed Scout Troop began to meet at the Legion. Howard Hall was Scout master for 15 years in Port Perry. Rev. Bull said grace. After dinner, Al Freeman, The Provincial Field Executive ex- tended greetings from the Provin- cial Council. Al reminded everyone that the last 3 presidents of United States were Boy Scouts, saying maybe one of our boys could become Prime Minister. The Beaver leaders Karen Sanders, Beth Potter, Don Foster, and Vince Palermo presented the Beavers with their pictures and service bars. Akela Paul Sherwood, Greg Sanders and Gord Mercer presented the Cubs with their pic- tures and service bars Kub Kar trophies were as follows: Mat- thew Bramham - 1st design, Mat- thew Bramham and David Em- merson - best paint, Jimmy Crowe - 1st boy only design, Chris Koepke - 1st speed. Morden. Earlier in the day Jeff won the district bike rodeo senior division, that was hosted by 1st Cartwright. Last year, Jeff won the Junior division. Cub of the year was presented to Bobby Brown for his achieve- | ment and practicing the Cubbing spirit. Scout leader Ken Huggins presented the Scouts with their service bars. Greg Sherwood received Best All Round Scout for his accomplishments in scouting. Doug Butt presented Lloyd | Greenough with a cheque of | $400.00 from the Royal Canadian | Legion, Branch 419. 1st Port Perry is planning to buy new tents for the boys. Butch McCelland and Greg Smith presented the leaders with les pins. Don Foster, Vince Palermo, Ken Huggins - 1 year pins. Karen Sanders, Beth Potter, Lloyd Greenough, Greg Sanders --2 year pins. Paul Sherwood 3 year pins. Gord Mercer 5 year pin. Al Freeman invested Father Charles as 1st Port Perry Chaplain. Charles is a welcomed addition to the group. Everyone enjoyed the going up ceremonies which included - John Berry, John Sanders, Jason Issacs and Adam Sinclair swam up tocubs. They were greeted by Akela Paul Sherwood and the cub pack. Bobby Brown and Matthew Boyce walked up to Scouts. Ken Huggins and the Scout Troop welcomed them into their horse shoe. k Lloyd Greenbugh thanked everyone for their hard work, the parents and leaders for their sup- port, and welcomed the seven new leaders that joined this year. Rev. Bull closed the evening with a prayer.
