Port Perry, Ontario "If life hands you a lemon, make lemonade." ~ Greenbank area news Greenbank kids skip up a storm for all hearts Since last week was 'Education Week' in Durham Region, our public school was humming with all sorts of activities. Several students travelled to Epsom and Uxbridge Public Schools to take part in the Literay Guild. The young authors took an en- thusiastic interest in this venture. On Wednesday April 26, the junior grades presented K.I.D.S., a musical concert and the vrimary grades presented "Favourite Television Oldies." This concert was a complete suc- cess due to the very dedicated staff and hard working students. The show was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Its fantastic to see these "Partners in Education' working together and showing us what its all about. Kudos to our very "Much Appreciated Staff." On Friday April 28, our school took part in the "Jump Rope For Heart" fuhdraiser. The children skipped their way to earning pledges for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario. Special thanks to the organizers, skippers and judges. Over $4100.00 was pledged during this event. Con- gratulations to all on a job well done. Last Friday, in conjunction with secretary's week, our very efficient and congenial school secretary, Mrs. Marie Parish was taken out for lunch by Principle Mr. Bill Pakosta and assistant to the Principle Mrs. Linda Fockler. The U.C.W meetings are on Wednesday May 3, in the church basement with the Afternoon Unit at 1:30 with special guests, Carol Young and Barbara Murphy of Uxbridge speaking on India. The Evening Unit will meet at 8 p.m. and the topic will be '"Enviorn- mental Issues." All ladies of the community are welcome to attend. Rev. Shepherd and 8 ladies were guests of the Pinedale U.C.W. last week when they heard a special speaker talk on South Africa. She gave excellent information 'on the conditions of that country, and also displayed a number of keepsake articles that they had brought home with them. So sorry to hear that Ken Toms' father has been in a serious car accident. We wish them both bet- ter health. The 4-H group, leaders, some parents and a grandfather spent a very enjoyable day a the Milton Agricultural Museum on Satur- day to complete our project "Working with Wool." A former resident of Green- bank, Miss Dorothy Real of Toronto died this week after fail- ing health for the last while. Our sympathy to her family. + Mr. and Mrs. Rodd Foster, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Foster of Green- bank, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Beer of Whitby, and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Foster of Oshawa entertained their mother, Mrs. Velma Foster on Sunday evening for supper at Krebs in Whitby in honour of her 81st Birthday. Congratulations. Recent callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Armour McMillan were Mr. and Mrs. Andy David- son of Lindsay, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Hockley of Uxbridge, Mr. Trevor Watson of Markham and Mrs. Alma Wilson of Balsam.' The Greenbank Brownies have had a very busy week. On Tues- day April 25, they took part in a litter chase at the park and ball diamond. Thanks to these girls, the grounds look a lot more attractive. On Friday April 28, 15 astro- naunts (a.k.a. the Greenbank Brownies) blasted off the Outer Space (a.k.a. Camp Samac). They worked on their Camper's, # ¥ ¥ ¥ NY ¥ ray Skipping'ls always more fu Astronomer's and Space Badge. The 'Happy Campers" splashed down on Sunday afternoon none the worse for wear! Last Friday under sunny skies, Greenbank Public School celebrated Education Week with a skip-a-thon to raise mon- ey for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Working In teams, the Greenbank students and staff skipped from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. In the afternoon, Epsom Public School did the same thing. By the end of the day, the kids had raised an In- credible $4,100.
