Our goal, while stated in dollars, is really to assure optimum health services to people of Scugog Township. The success of this campaign can be attributed to the dedicated participation of local businesses and professionals, national corporations, foundations, service clubs and organizations, the Hospital famiy, and the people of Scugog Township. To date, over $150,000. has been raised from the community door-to-door canvass. If you have not yet been visited, please drop your envelope off at the campaign office (at the trailer in the hospital parking lot) or mail it. Net income increased 21 per- cent from $11.2 million the previous year to $13.5 million in 1988. Earnings per common share increased 11 percent to $1.82 from $1.64 in 1987. Standard Trust was founded in 1963 by Stephen B. Roman, a former resident of Scugog Township, who died in 1988. Mr. Roman who served as Chairman of the Board was known around the world for his pioneering work in the mining, oil and gas business, but in his heart he was a farmer and a leader in the development of the Holstein breed in Canada. The branch network was ex- panded in 1988 with the opening of seven new branches in Barrie, Brockville, Granby, Halifax, Ot- tawa, Peterborough and Port Hope. At year end the number of branches totalled 35. - The Company's capital base was also strengthened in 1988 with a 33 percent increase in - shareholder's equity to $81.7 million. In addition $75 million of term debt was issued. The return on average common shareholders' equity was main- tained at a high level. In 1988 the return was 19.5 percent compared to 21 percent in 1987.
