Changes plea to guilty A 23 year old Sunderland man is to be sentenced this week after pleading guilty in District Court to a charge of criminal negligence causing death. Stephen Chambers had originally pleaded not guilty to the charge, but changed his plea on the second day of his trial last Thursday in Whitby. His lawyer asked for the de- lay in sentencing to allow Chambers time to put his af- fairsin order. The charge stemmed from an incident last November 26 when Chambers and a friend from Toronto, Victor Psaila, soon much of the evening rinking at at Uxbridge restau- rant. About midnight as they were driving north along Re- gional Road 1, Chambers lost control of the 81 Honda, which left the road and struck two trees. He later told Police he had been robbed by a stranger and shoved from the car. But under further ques- tioning by Police, he admitted the robbery had been a fabrica- ;tionon his part. ! Court was told last week 'that Chambers had consumed . 'six whiskey and cokes during the evening of the accident. He told Police he remem- 'bered nothing of the accident, 'only standing beside the dam- 'aged car. Far N Ty The sentencing hearing in front of Judge Joe Kerr was to get underway this week.
